“It was all a Dream” The Notorious B.I.G.
Rob Stone set me up w/ my 1st job which was the catalyst in my career 2 becoming a manager & label owner. A few yrs later he launched Cornerstone & The Fader, & w/ both of us living in the city our biz & personal relationships flourished. He’d eventually bring me into the CS family, assigning me an office next 2 his.
In meetings w/ Rob I had a front row seat 2 observe & learn. I recall his charm as he met w/ Artists & DJ’s seeking his promotional expertise or w/ clients 2 pitch biz, brainstorm ideas; innovative, he pushed boundaries. I admired his unselfishness towards people. Status or position didn’t matter; Rob made time. Equally impressive, Rob’s ability 2 listen & then give practical advice, he was part teacher, part life coach.
We met for lunches & dinners; Rob almost always treated. He landed reservations at the spots &!took me to events that I would never have gotten into w/out him. We traveled on biz trips, vacationed to Islands, skied out West. Summers spent at his home in Sag Harbor; his door was open for my family & his wide range of friends. He connected people, they became my friends. He was inclusive, generous & welcoming beyond comprehension.
Rob could be tough. Tough to beat at chess, or ping pong, or a game of horse, I surely never did. Tough to negotiate deals with, tough to win in an argument & if u were skilled enough to do so, tough to get him to admit he was wrong. He was tough to outdo, follow me…. we were both late 2become Fathers. At 45 I had my son who I named him Harvin, in honor of my late father Harvey Friedman, w/ an ode 2 the legend Percy Harvin, a WR on my fav team the MN Vikings. 6 months later Rob 1 up’s me, having not 1, but 2 boys; naming 1 Charlie in honor of his late father & hero Charles Stone & the other Jett after the whole damn team.
Of all his accomplishments, I know none were held w/ greater pride than his love & admiration for his twin boys, daughter Mika to follow, & his wife Lauren. He set the gold standard for what it means to look out for family & friends. Was always family 1st.
