✨Rest in Power Tshegofatso P**e and to the love you were carrying✨. I hope you are free ✨❤️💔 Nikiwe Dlamini wrote an article on gender based violence in South Africa (link my bio) for in 2017. Nikiwe was very close friends with Tshegofatso. I'm so sorry for your loss friend ❤️❤️🌹🌹✨

The list attached was a list we put together in 2017 and doesn't even put a dent in the amount of women we've lost at the hands of murderous men.
In this country, a black woman is more likely to be killed by her lover or a loved one and that makes me scared to be alive.

Black Girl Fat Girl isn't real anymore but all the articles are still up on our WordPress. This magazine was my honest attempt at finding a place on this planet and Nikiwe was by my side from day one. I'm sorry again friend 💔💔 I don't have any real words. I wish I could give you the longest hug ❤️🌹

Shezi Makes History as KZN's first black female Neurosurgeon.

32 year old Dr Nomusa Shezi is making her mark.
She is KZN's first Black woman to graduate as a neurosurgeon, UZKN announced today.
Her graduation will take place at the University of Kwazulu Natal (UKZN), next year.
Shezi completed her undergraduate studies at UKZN in 2008 and recently qualified as a neurosurgeon.

Currently working as a medical officer at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli Hospital, she said growing up during the height of the HIV epidemic, her dream was to help sick people and nurse them back to health.
"I think growing up amid the HIV epidemic, and having parents who did not shield me from the reality of what was happening, in some way urged a desire in me to help - to find a way to be a source of hope in my country."She adds: "I have always wanted to be a doctor. I remember writing an essay in Grade 3 about finding a cure for HIV."

Raised in Pietermaritzburg, Shezi attributes much of her success to her parents.
She hopes this will encourage more women to get into the field.
‘We are still working in an environment where surgery in general is considered a “man’s” field.
"So, neurosurgery is an even harder field to crack for women. "My long-term plan is to create and be a part of a functional neurosurgery Unit in KwaZulu-Natal.
"I would like to build a team that would treat movement disorders, severe epilepsy and perform awake surgery.
"This would not just save the government millions of rand on life-long treatment, but more importantly, provide quality of life to many patients in this province.’ she said.

There are only five Black African female neurosurgeons in the country. Shezi is the first for the province.

😍😍😍😍 Happy Saturday

As I have made clear so often in the past with every fiber of my being, I embrace my natural heritage and despite having grown up thinking light skin and straight, silky hair were the standards of beauty, I now know that my dark skin and kinky, coily hair are beautiful too. Being featured on the cover of a magazine fulfills me as it is an opportunity to show other dark, kinky-haired people, and particularly our children, that they are beautiful just the way they are. I am disappointed that Grazia UK invited me to be on their cover and then edited out and smoothed my hair to fit their notion of what beautiful hair looks like. Had I been consulted, I would have explained that I cannot support or condone the omission of what is my native heritage with the intention that they appreciate that there is still a very long way to go to combat the unconscious prejudice against black women's complexion, hair style and texture.
