The ashtanga, or the 8 limbs of yoga, is an eightfold approach for the development of the consciousness.

Similar to the limbs of the body, they work together in various ways. Each one of them has a proper role, necessary for the right development.

The ashta (eight) anga (limb) consist of:

- Yama
- Niyama
- Asana
- Pranayama
- Pratyahara
- Dharana
- Dhyana
- Samadhi

The first five limbs — from yama to pratyahara — make up the outer aspect of yoga. They are preliminary in nature, laying the foundation for a deeper practice. Whereas, the last three limbs — dharana to samadhi — focus on the inner aspects of the practice, and are integral to spiritual growth and self-realization. These inner aspects of yoga are considered the ultimate purpose of the practice, where one transcends the limitations of the material world and reaches a state of pure consciousness and unity.

The path of evolution requires restraint (Yama), observation (Niyama), and action and practice of all eight limbs. Seeking these in harmony leads to freedom, and a joyful creative life. These eight limbs provide a holistic framework for spiritual and personal development in the practice of yoga, and life.

At Emiko, the ashtanga serve as the guidelines for a more fulfilling and enlightened life. The ashtanga continues to shape Emiko Wellness as a brand.
