The Speaker of Parliament and Omoro Member of Parliament Hon Jacob Oulanyah passed away on Sunday, March 20, 2022.

He died from Seattle in the United States of Africa where he was taken one month ago to get better treatment.

While giving a speech at Jacob Oulanyah’s ancestral home in Omoro district, Mr. Nathan Okori, the father of Speaker Jacob Oulanyah has said his son didn’t die a natural death, he was poisoned.

“I know all of you who have come here are mourners. My son’s death is not easy news to welcome because I know he didn’t die if natural causes, he was poisoned,” Oulanyah’s father said.

“I know very well that he was poisoned, and whatever somebody will say tomorrow should not distort the information we now have.” He did not say who may have planned his son’s death or why.

Despite Oulayah’s father’s statement about his death, the information Minister Chris Baryomunsi has asked Ugandans to ignore the information of the poisoning as they wait for the post-mortem report.

Since Sunday, Ugandans have been asking about the cause of his death and no answers have been given by the government.

“Ignore that information [poisoning claims]. The post-mortem report will be released and the government will give out a statement,” Dr. Chris Baryomunsi said.

Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile is a Ugandan economist and banker. He has been the governor of the Bank of Uganda, the central bank of Uganda.

He was first appointed to that position on 1 January 2001 and was re-appointed for a second five-year term on 1 January 2006

Emmanuel Tumusiime-Mutebile was until his death a Ugandan economist and banker. He has been the governor of the Bank of Uganda, the central bank of Uganda.

*GOODBYE MUSEVENI! Stella Nyanzi Flees Uganda with Her Children, Claims Her Life was in Danger*

*January 20, 2022*

Ugandan academic, feminist and writer Dr Stella Nyanzi and her children have fled the country over alleged safety concerns.

Nyanzi was previously jailed over her comments on President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni and members of the first family.

She lost a parliamentary poll for Kampala in the 2021 elections.

Now, Nyanzi says she was not safe as a writer and activist who wants to keep speaking truth to power.

Since December 28, Nyanzi’s friend and novelist Kakwenza Rukirabashaija has been in detention for reportedly disturbing the peace of President Museveni and his son Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

Dr Nyanzi has now gone to Germany where she says she is valued.

“Go to where you are wanted! Go to where your skills and talents are appreciated. Go to where your children are safe even when you speak and write ugly truths to power. Go to where you will flourish when you work hard. When Kakwenza Rukirabashaija was abducted from his home, illegally detained in unknown military facilities for fourteen days, tortured during interrogation and denied access to his lawyers or doctors for fourteen days, I knew it was time to beat it and flee (yet again),” says the activist and writer.

“I refuse to be gagged. I refuse to be silenced! Critical writers must never be threatened merely for writing critically about brutal abusers of power flourishing under dictator Museveni.Bye-bye Museveni’s Uganda! Germany, please be good to me and my children.”

*Tears Of Joy For Pastor Bujjingo, Suzan Makula As Court Grants Them Bail; Mabirizi Left Cursing, Fearing For His Life*

*Pastor Bujjingo and Suzan Makula Nantaba*

Entebbe Grade One Magistrate Stella Okwang has granted Pastor Aloysius Bujjingo and Suzan Makula bail, leaving perennial litigant Hassan Male Mabirizi cursing.

As we reported earlier, Bujjingo and Makula appeared in court for the hearing of their case.

Bujjingo and Makula face charges of bigamy and accusations of contracting marriage by customary law when already married under the Marriage Act.

But the duo denied the charges.

They applied for bail, which was granted.

The magistrate granted Makula and Bujjingo a Shs3m cash bail, and bonded their sureties at Shs10m.

But Okwang’s decision to release Bujjingo and Makula left Mabirizi angry.

The lawyer had hours earlier tabled reasons why his life would be in danger if Bujjingo was granted bail since he had reportedly threatened him.

*Just in: Court Decides Next Week On Kakwenza Bail*

*January 21, 2022*

Buganda Road Court has on Friday pushed to Tuesday next week, the decision on releasing from Prison Ugandan satirical novelist Kakwenza Rukirabashaija.

Kakwenza, who is on remand in Kitalya Prison is facing charges of offensive communication contrary to section 25 of the Computer Misuse Act 2011.

He accused of using his social media accounts to insult President Yoweri Museveni and First Son Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

On Friday, Mr Kakwenza appeared before the Buganda Road Court via video conferencing where he applied the bail.

The Magistrate set Tuesday 25th January for deciding on releasing the accused.

- Transport sector fully reopened with SOPs e.g. wearing face-masks, full vaccination etc.

- Cinema halls and sports activities reopened with SOPs.

- Preprimary, primary and secondary schools to reopen starting on 10th January.

- Performing arts, concerts and bars to reopen two weeks after reopening of schools.

- Curfew lifted for everyone except boda bodas.

- The above measures could be changed if hospital beds are filled up-to 50%.

NUP’s Shamim Nambassa wins Makerere Guild Race

Shamim Nambasa is the 87th guild president of Makerere University. She secured landslide victory in the guild polls held on Friday.
Nambasa, who ran on the National Unity Platform-NUP party ticket, garnered 5610 votes representing 54% of the votes cast.
Her Forum for Democratic Change-FDC counterpart and closest rival, Obeid Kamulegeya obtained 1548 votes. Nambasa’s best performance was from the school of medicine where she obtained 481 votes beating Obeid Kamulegeya who managed 72 votes.
Makerere University used both electronic and physical voting.

Uganda’s new Shs48b trains useless – URC

At least Shs48 billion splashed by the Uganda Railways Corporation (URC) on buying four locomotives is said to have gone to waste since the version of locomotives shipped into the country from South Africa cannot be used.

This is because the locomotives with a haulage capacity of 1,500 tonnes plus a shelf life of about 40 years cannot be supported by available railway line plates to move. Even worse, the resale of the four South African made locomotives is nearly impossible.

This implies that government has to trace more money and finance the procurement of plates that would match the four locomotives if value for money is to be realised out of them.

This tremendous improvement follows a collaboration of efforts between Aga Khan Hospital and Nairobi hospital where he is currently admitted.

Professor Godfrey Lule, a Ugandan consultant physician and Gastroenterologist who is highly sought after in Kenya and Professor Muhindi Wanjugu a consultant Physician and chest expert are leading the medical team that is working on the Lord Mayor.

We continue to extend our thanks to the team in Nairobi, the people of Kampala and Uganda in general for your efforts, sympathies and prayers as we hope for and look forward to the Lord Mayor's quick recovery and return to Kampala.
