Another poem I wrote:
Dreams
We all, as children, dream beautiful dreams
Of what we hope to be.
But life throws curves at most, it seems.
And that’s what happened to me.
I dreamt of flying high in space,
Where I could touch the stars.
But that dream died without a trace.
I’d never visit Mars.
Instead, I found myself, one day,
Toiling at a trade.
No hope, no dreams, just walls of gray,
I watched my future fade.
And then I read a book, you see,
That lit a spark inside.
Revealing something I could be,
I’d travel far and wide.
The words were crafted with such skill,
They opened a new door.
Could I lay hold of ink and quill,
And write of peace and war?
To share a story of the past
Or even what’s to come.
A universe so grand and vast,
Amid life’s ceaseless thrum?
The subject of the story read
Is not what thrilled my soul.
It was, my friend, how words were said
That now made my dream whole.
I looked and read and realized I
Could do the same as he,
Combine so many words and try
To write for all to see.
And then I saw this was my gift,
Fulfillment of my dream.
I’ll travel throughout space so swift,
An everlasting stream.
The moon and Mars and Saturn, too,
My destination all.
Every day it’s somewhere new,
Beyond the gloomy pall.
With pen and paper, I will write
A story for the ages.
Pursue this craft both day and night
To write a million pages.
And now I find it’s my escape
To flee the world around.
I create a world, its shape
Is mine from sky to ground.
Anything can become real
As words come out so fast.
Watch my hands as I bend steel,
Mix future with the past.
I may not be the best around,
In fact, I’m sure I’m not.
But when I see my dreams abound,
There is no afterthought.
If you find a curve is thrown
At you in life’s pursuit,
And that dream you’ve always known
Somehow becomes just moot.
Don’t you fear, please don’t give up
Because there’s more for you.
Drink at last from this life’s cup
Enjoy its heady brew.
Your dream might not be what you thought,
But something new, my friend.
With fear you might think it fraught,
Yet, your dream’s already penned.
Embrace it every day and see
What your dream has in store.
You will find it sets you free
And to the stars you’ll soar.
