....But Fiifi Mensah believes otherwise, arguing that the election of MMDCEs on partisan lines would be a recipe for sabotage of key government policies like the Free SHS and the One District One Factory initiative, should elements of the opposition be elected to man the assemblies.

He believes Ghana is not ripe to take such a step because, the country has no comprehensive national development agenda that would bind successive governments to work towards achieving its aspirations, so it would be suicidal to have opposition elements in the governance structure, especially in critical positions like the MMDCE.

Speaking in an interview with Sunyani-based Space FM monitored by MyNewsGh.com, he urged Ghanaians to honour the president and appreciate his work by voting at least 90% NO; a clear deviation from the wish of Nana Akufo Addo.

“I’m appealing to all the good people of Ghana, especially homes that have benefitted from the Free SHS, Nation Builders Corps (NABCO) and other social interventions instituted by this government to thank the president by voting NO in the upcoming referendum”, he said.

This would be the second time under President Nana Akufo-Addo that a referendum would be held.

The Ministry of Communications has directed telcos to roll over all unused data and voice bundles purchased by customers.

This will mean unused data and credit will not expire.

“All unused data and voice bundles purchased by subscribers do not expire and must be rolled over with the next recharge,” the Ministry said in the statement that also directed teclos to cease the instant deduction of the Communications Service Tax (CST).

The Ministry assured that Mobile Network Operators will be subjected to “strict compliance with exiting Quality of Service (QoS) standard to ensure value for the subscribers’ money in accordance with their licence obligations.”

The directive came in a letter written to the National Communications Authority and was copied the Chief Executive Officers of MTN and Vodafone as well as the two Deputy Ministers of Communication.

The Communications Minister, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful said this was part of measures to”minimise the negative impact of deduction of the CST.”

Currently, only AirtelTigo offers data bundles that do not expire.

11/10/2019

The Communications Ministry has ordered Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) to stop passing on the 9% Communication Service Tax (CST) to subscribers.

In a letter addressed to the National Communications Authority (NCA), and published in full below, the Communications Ministry stated that the CST should be treated the same way VAT, NHIL, GETFUND levy and all other taxes and levies imposed on entities doing business in Ghana are treated.

“At a series of meetings held between the Ministry of Communications, Mobile Network Organisations (MNOs) and the NCA on 7th and 8th October, 2019, we were informed that prior to 4th September 2019, MNOs had not been passing on CST to subscribers but had decided to take advantage of the 3% increase to pass on the entire tax to subscribers. This has effectively increased their profit margin at the expense of subscribers,” the letter explained.

MTN, AirtelTigo, Vodafone and Glo have been charging their customers the full amount of the revised Communication Service Tax (CST) since October 1, 2019.

The Communications Ministry has ordered Mobile Network Operators to stop passing on the 9% CST to subscribers.

Political science lecturer at the University of Ghana, Professor Ransford Edward Gyampo has been caught up in the “s*x for grades” investigations carried out by BBC Africa Eye.

Professor Gyampo, who is also the Head of European Studies at the University of Ghana, in the compromising video was seen requesting to marry one of the BBC reporters who posed as a student seeking academic favours.

In excerpts of the video released on BBC Somalia’s page, Professor Gyampo persuaded the reporter to meet him at the mall where he was caught on camera making “numerous inappropriate demands.”

The documentary was commissioned in response to allegations of s*xual harassment by lecturers that have hovered over tertiary institutions.

After initial interviews, BBC Africa Eye sent undercover journalists posing as students inside the University of Lagos and the University of Ghana.

The lead reporter in the exposé, Kiki Mordi, said she was also a victim of s*xual harassment when she was in school.

The BBC said its female reporters were “s*xually harassed, propositioned and put under pressure by senior lecturers at the institutions” while they were wearing secret cameras.

The bulk of the excerpt released spent time in the University of Lagos and one of its lecturers alleged attempts to proposition a student seeking admission into the school.

A lecturer at the College Of Education, Dr. Paul Kwame Butakor, was also indicted in the investigative piece.

He has also denied the claims.

It is expected that more lectures will be implicated in the exposé.

I'll sue BBC over 'S*x for Grades' documentary - Ransford Gyampo

Political Science lecturer at the University of Ghana (UG), Professor Ransford Gyampo has threatened to initiate a legal action against the BBC over its "S*x for grades" documentary which mentions him [Gyampo] as one of the lecturers who offer grades to students in exchange for s*x.

In a radio interview with Accra based Citi FM on Monday, Professor Gyampo denied abusing his power to make s*xual advances towards students.

Professor Gyampo was allegedly implicated in the “s*x for grades” investigations carried out by BBC Africa Eye.

“I didn’t see anything like that [in the video] and I have not done anything like that,” he said in the radio interview with a Citi FM.

Professor Gyampo, who is also the Head of European Studies at the university, according to the BBC report allegedly requested to marry one of the BBC reporters who posed as a student seeking academic favours.

In excerpts of the video released on BBC Somalia’s page, Professor Gyampo persuaded the reporter to meet him at the mall where he was caught on camera making “numerous [alleged] inappropriate demands.”

In the report, he also allegedly requested to kiss the reporter.
