GOOD HOUSEKEEPING: MY UNEXPECTED ADVENTURES IN DOMESTICITY by Patricia J. Patricia Parsons, Writer

ERICA FLANAGAN, uber-feminist and one of the stars of the afternoon television talk show, has honed her on-air bitch persona to perfection. Or so she thought. But Erica is becoming increasingly impatient with the new breed of millennial women who seem to be regressing into homemaker mode. When she finally blows her stack on live television, her boss puts her on a six-month sabbatical. In all her fifty-three years on the planet, workaholic Erica has never had time on her hands. Erica needs a project.

With a burning desire to show all those young, stay-at-home, housewife women a thing or two, Erica embarks on a project to prove to the younger generation of women that they’re wasting their time on meaningless home-based activities—that they need to get a life. And if Erica, who doesn’t have a domestic bone in her body, can do it, she will have won the argument. But she never considered the consequences of the social media backlash.

Between her thirteen-year-old social media-savvy daughter Maddie, a budding filmmaker and the mysterious Betty Crocket, who keeps showing up unannounced, Erica finds herself on a wild domestic adventure and unexpectedly discovers she might not be who she thinks she is.

A bit of assistance for aspiring writers.

When a writer tackles dialogue in a piece of writing, the goal is to make it realistic and compelling. Dialogue brings those characters on the page to life for the reader. And it doesn’t matter if you’re writing a novel with fictitious characters, a memoir with characters drawn from real people or other nonfiction such as a biography or even a magazine profile of a real person; dialogue is important to the story.
Unless your writing is strictly academic, writing dialogue well is one of the most fundamental tools in a writer’s toolbox. In this episode of WRITE. FIX. REPEAT. author Patricia Parsons, Writer shares five tips that might help you do it better.

The idea that artificial intelligence can generate written material has struck terror into the hearts of many writers—and readers—I don’t think we need fear that yet because AI cannot write as well as you can. Yet.

So, is there anything you can use AI for right now? The short answer is yes.

Author Patricia J. Parsons thought it might be fun to try it out. She signed up for a free account at “Open AI” and started playing around with it. It helped to generate five tips for how you can use AI in your writing. Have a look at this week’s episode of WRITE. FIX. REPEAT.

Writers might not always like it, but they know this: editing is part of writing. New writers, however, don’t always understand that editing is a multi-step process.

Every piece of writing, from a 400-word blog post to a 400-page novel, needs editing unless you’re never planning on another soul reading it. It’s cruel to ask even your closest friend or ally to read an unedited manuscript—the one exception to this being your alpha reader.

New writers often ask this: How many drafts will my manuscript need before it’s ready for an agent, publisher or reader?
The answer is simple: As many as it takes to get it right. I have five tips to help writers understand this multi-step editing process in today’s video.

Situations like a global pandemic beg for some common sense. If people understood things like how medical research studies are conducted, they’d be able to make better sense of all the information and misinformation in the media. If for no other reason, you should have read this book by now. A family physician’s common sense approach to helping us all make better informed decisions about our healthcare.

One of the universal realities of the writing life is rejection. Writing isn’t the only field where rejection is a fact of life―you can be rejected in practically every industry―but it seems somewhat poignant for writers. And if you’re going to be a writer who writes for anyone other than yourself, you will have to learn to deal with rejection. Anyone who writes books (fiction or nonfiction), magazine articles, blog posts for other bloggers, journal articles,
You say you plan to self-publish everything so you can avoid all that nastiness from agents and publishers, do you?
Here’s a wake-up call for you: even readers can reject you. Rejections come not only in the form of rejection letters but also in the form of nasty reviews.
So, learning to deal with rejection and developing a thick skin to deal with criticism are essential parts of being a writer―if you want to maintain your sanity.
Maybe my five tips this week can help you.

There are many reasons why you might consider writing a nonfiction book. You may be an expert and want to share your insights in a specific area of expertise. You may be an entrepreneur who would like to showcase your knowledge and skills to potential clients. You may have a passion for a subject area and want to share your research and insights with the broader world. You might have an interesting personal story and want to write a memoir to enrich others’ lives. Whatever the reason you may have for considering writing a book, your first step is to plan and write a book proposal.

Agents and publishers demand nonfiction proposals, and if you plan to self-publish, your submission (for yourself) provides you with direction for writing, publishing and eventual marketing.
This workbook is designed to help you understand what you need, why you need it, and how to create a complete draft of your nonfiction book proposal.

Author PATRICIA J. PARSONS sold her first nonfiction book to a publisher based on her first book proposal attempt in 1988. Since then, she’s written and successfully sold almost a dozen nonfiction books―all contracts awarded based on a book proposal. She will guide you through the real-world process of preparing a book proposal for agents, editors and yourself.

Now available. The workbook you need to get that nonfiction book proposal ready for publishers and agents.
