The Slickee Boys, Live @ the 9:30 Club, December 28 1996
This is essentially my first outing as a remote recording engineer, before I even had a proper mic mixer. I basically spread out all my gear on the floor at stage left, stringing together a series of mic inputs (a DJ console, another reel-to-reel machine used strictly for left and right guitar mics, and quite possibly a small Radio Shack four channel mixer for kick and two overheads on the drums). I got an isolated vocal feed from the sound guy to blend in with the drum tracks and I was in business. Seen here is the original Pioneer quadrophonic machine used to record the night's performances, which also included a rousing set by Betty Blue! Newly remixed at Happy Room Studios in the digital domain, here's a cut from The Slickee Boys first performance at the "New" 9:30 Club, December 28, 1996.
