🆕️ Coniston Power Boat Record Week 2024 - Day 4
Coniston, England Thursday 7th November 2024 🇬🇧
Day 4 of the 52nd annual water speed record week had competitors chomping at the bit to get out on the run following yesterday’s stand down because of low cloud. The misty morning held the catamaran boat off the run initially but there were no shortage of other types of craft in the stack.
1st up was Malachy Browne in his Offshore Circuit ProCat Pro Stock class who had set a new British National record earlier in the week. Noincrease on his first attempt but persistence did pay off, eventually increasing his record speed to 58.64mph.
Malc Dopson and is co-driver Clair Williams were the first record breakers of the day in their Pleasure Navigation Group A (HOCR) F Sport class boat who increased their World and British National record to 80.00mph. Throughout the day Malc broke and re-broke the World and National record a total of 4 times eventually settling at 82.96mph. They are hoping to push this even higher on the water tomorrow.
Already a World and British water speed record breaker this week, 13 year old, Poppy Stewart was another driver in Coniston this week with the passion and persistence to demonstrate great British endeavour. The youngest driver of the week, Poppy, today increased her record speed to 41.35mph and on hand to congratulate her was the oldest competitor of the week, American speed record legend, Bob Wartinger.
With 43 attempts and 11 records broken, Day 3 of the 52nd Power Boat Record Week was a busy one.
We head into the last day of this years event with many drivers still aiming to break records including Ted Walsh looking for the Outright Electric record and Sam Whittle who today was just 1mph off the 133.79mph speed he is looking for in the Formula Grand Prix (Catamaran Over 2.0 litre plus) class.
