TIME TO END CASTEISM
- Sugundan Murugesan

It was the 69th Independence day from Colonial English Government. There was a smell of patriotism in every corner with flags flying high with pride and freedom. Our Prime Minister's historic speech at Independence day from rampart of Red fort was being echoed in every house through television channels.

In the night of this historic day, there was chaos and "Run for life " situation as seven houses of Dalits and their temple - car was burning to ashes in Seshasamudram village, Vilupuram district, T.N.

Seshasamudram village is like any other village in India. It consists of people from various communities. The riot which led to burning down of Dalits' house and temple car was by Vanniars who live in the same village.
For Dalits, it has been a dream to have their deity in a temple - car and take around Mariamman temple that's in their colony. The seeds of conflict can be taken back to panchayat election where a leader from Vanniar caste assured Dalits the right to have temple car proceedings.

With amount of 3500 rupees collected from every Dalit's home and 1 lakh rupees donation by the Vanniar leader who won the election with Dalits' support managed to build their own temple car. The proposed procession takes around 175 meters. Out of which 50 metre is main road and it is common for both the communities. Vanniars were highly unhappy as they didn't want Dalits to carry on their procession through common road saying that they won't worship the deity carrying by Dalits. Vanniar leader who initially supported Dalit for their temple - car right, later reversed his decision.

The temple car proceeding was about to happen by Sunday ( Aug 16,2015 ). But by Saturday night riot broke out as around 200 vanniar men with stones, sticks ,petrol bomb went to burn down Dalits' home and temple car. It was a well planned attack. Some men took care to demolish street lamps and bulbs in every Dalits home. Even Vanniar children took part in this heartless vandalizing act against Dalits. The first home they burnt down belonged to Dalit man who married Vanniar girl some days back. It shows the clear anger of their attack and that the amplitude of problem was way beyond temple - car.

There are many such villages in India which are fuming with caste vengeance. As caste system was there in India for some thousand years, it will take some hundred years time to get rid of it completely. I think the following simple things will work out up to some extent to bring down such communal riots,

1) No election promise should be made on communal things and caste based politics should not be advocated.

2) There should be awareness campaign to convince higher class people that every human being is equal and they are their kith & Kin.

3) People who are deprived of some rights for long period should not mock at other caste people after getting their rights fulfilled.

4) Inter-caste marriage should be seen as a thing that was born of pure love and it should not be given communal dimensions.

5) Liberal Education against casteism should be brought into school curriculum so as to stop next generation people falling into castesim.

It's long way to go for true Independence. Come let's walk together.

Good days ahead

"Do we want our children to mop up the mess we’ll leave
behind, or should we do it ourselves, now?"
-Chetan Bhagat

We often speak of fulfilling our dreams. We try to give our heart and soul to take up the suitable path to achieve our destination. In this fast competitive world, a billion dollar question always arises in my mind. Why the hell CORRUPTION is................? Starting from the food we eat, the products we buy, the machines we use to ease our day to day work, life is filled with corruption. Our imports exceed our exports already creating economic and financial crises. Our trademarked products are being banned in other countries due to their poor quality partly inflicted by our deep rooted corruption. This in turn affects a large scale population. The percentage of people living under the Below Poverty Line increases steadily. Poverty is a disease and surviving well in the modern world becomes impossible.

A recent survey conducted by the students of Germany pointed out the least corrupted country. On reading news I was astonished that Denmark got that place. India is in 94th place. Why isn’t our country pure, which is known for its manpower, rich legacies, heritage and values of life? It’s absurd to point our politicians and weak governance as the reasons for corruptions. We always have the habit of blaming others for our mistake. This is quite natural. But it doesn’t work all the time. Corruption is the consequence of an individual's act. It's high time that we change our attitude. Every queue that doesn’t follow its way leads to corruption.

Have you ever thought what would be the dream of our motherland? She wants to be a free bird flying high with all her children living peacefully with unity under the shade of her love and support. But don’t you find your motherland in an entangled condition with ironic chains of corruption? However she tries hard to overcome the obstacles, she fails. So it's obviously our duty to fulfil her dreams. The best suggestion will be to utilise ourselves ( the massive student population). If we do pay attention to the issues, we can make the beginning towards building a corruption free kingdom. Kindle the flame in you through which the corruption sublimes out of the nation and make sure her wings soar high up in the sky with pride.

IGNORANCE A BLISS? , NOT ALWAYS
- Srimathi Ravichandran

Is cricket the only game, that Indians have ever found to be endearing or seraphic? How
many of us are acquainted with ins and outs of any other game? We are used to buzz about
the negligence of other games in the long run, but never endeavoured to take pains for it. For
those who think this article is about cricket, You are absolutely wrong...
Are you aware of Indian Women Cricket team? Their recent tournament against New
Zealand? Just 21 Lakh for the whole team as a reward to their incredible victory. Even Men's
team was paid far better on the account of losing against Bangladesh. Doesn’t the logic strike
us? Not only in sports, why in the hell of fields, the credits are being neglected for women.
Indian government has increased the percentage of seats to women in Legislative Bodies.
Why not BCCI? Lobbying sponsors is their only goal? These girls spent their days and nights
vigorously training to appear in lime-light of praises, they don’t even get 10% of the prize
awarded to the Men's team, who blew their own trumpets before their recent outings................

CORRUPTION A PREVAILING EVIL
By. Guru Moorthy
Corruption is a global issue. Almost all countries in our world are affected by corruption.
corruption is a growing issue in our country. It is a serious problem faced by our nation. Corruptions include political, financial, medical, armed force, corporate and others.
It has been around 20years, right from the chain reaction which started in 1993. Since then, the graph of corruption is growing every now and then, whenever we come across a new scam.

Top ranked government officals and politicans are frequently involved in corrupt practices in our country. This has impacted the economic growth negatively. Corrupted officials are not punished appropriately in our country.

Patriotic Fervour. ~~~ by, Srimati R

The ambition of the greatest man of our generation has been to wipe every tear from every eye. That may be beyond us, but as long as there are tears and sufferings, so long our work will not be over.
- Jawaharlal Nehru

How glad do we feel, about our country’s progress?

Ah, it’s indeed a good happening! But I don’t think we are worthy of enjoying it. What did we achieve all these years to make our country proud? Whenever it comes to independence, freedom, secular, sovereignty, a sharp needle pierces my heart and strikes a chord in my mind. At times I feel low, ashamed, pity and guilty.......

A skinny guy with a funny name. ~~~~ by, Anisha Seles

Does this seem to you to be the “perfect attributes of a cartoon character” ? Then think again.

This is how the president of USA described himself in one of his many inspiring speeches for years earlier. His journey to the presidency of the only super power today is one of the most path breaking and ofcourse an audacious one. You may wonder what’s the big deal. In a democracy after all anyone can aspire to become the number one. A small journey back through the time-machine just half a millenum back will make it clear, how unlikely it is for this man to become the PRESIDENT...........

Telecom in India – What is the heaven on Earth factor? ~~~ Srinath

The Indian Telecom has come a very long way, since its liberalization era. There has been a lot of growth, and its not at all surprising that some people often regard our country as Heaven for Telecom!, low bills, A2A free, roaming pack for JUST Rs.75 and the best part is, Calls free ! Absolutely, No one seems to note that the time for free calls is always placed between 10pm-6am, well, who’s calling you by then? Now to those, any of the following two facts may apply. The first one is that, ‘Those people’ aren’t aware of the actual racket happening behind all the call cutters, rate cutters and roaming fee waivers and secondly, ‘Those People’, those so called people, don’t actually know how heaven looks like..........

"Knowing Kailash Satyarthi" ~~~ by, Sugundan

It was October 10, 2014. Media people from around the world, were rushing and desperately trying to interview one single man whom the world has never heard about. What made him so special on that day? It was the day that the Norwegian Nobel committee announced Nobel Peace prize for Kailash Satyarthi and Malala Yousafzai. I came to know about Malala, a Pakistani, even before she bagged the prize. She had been in the news for taking a gun shot in her head from Taliban as she advocated and fought for girl education. It is no surprise for me that she got Nobel prize. But who is Kailash Satyarthi ? What did he do ? All I knew was that, he is an Indian. It made me very proud that he is the First Indian born to receive that honour. Soon, I started to explore deep about him........

How much for love? ~~by, Ashwin Narayan

The case of Dowry can fairly be considered as omnipresent, across oceans. And perhaps has been so since time immemorial. Lately for some reason Dowry happens to be more of a Desi issue. I seek to deliberate on that. The act of Dowry is not of an individual's. For this degenerate deed to happen, it needs a contemptible asker and an ignorant giver; sadly the nation seems to be in no lack of them. Marriage constructs an avenue to share love. Can love ever be bought? What could be the price tag that merits to be placed on the love bestowed upon us by our all-forgiving Mothers? Could we ever place such a tag on the love of a man who doesn't think twice to sacrifice for our betterment - Father? It is unfathomable to buy your better-half.....
