🍃In this weeks upcoming podcast episode, we will be diving into an incredible journey with kratom – a plant medicine with over 54 alkaloids. These compounds subtly bond to opioid receptors, offering pain relief and a dopamine boost, all at a gentler level than traditional opioids. Yet, like any powerful tool, kratom demands respect. Controlled and responsible use is key, especially considering its potential for addiction. Unlike opioids, kratom's withdrawal effects are often reported to be milder. The risk of respiratory depression, a major concern with opioids, seems low with kratom. Studies suggest its alkaloids don't induce this dangerous effect. However, concerns linger around overdose, often linked to combining kratom with other substances or underlying health conditions. As we navigate the landscape of plant medicine, it's crucial to stay informed. Organizations like the American Kratom Association are working to dispel misinformation and ensure consumer safety.

🍃Join us this Friday, as Melody Woolf shares her remarkable story of resilience, healing, and the rediscovery of family bonds, all thanks to the transformative power of kratom.

What I like to call a ‘no s**t’ study.

A recent scientific study has uncovered an intriguing connection between the use of psilocybin mushrooms and reduced overtime work amongst full-time employees. While the study’s findings are obviously not conclusive proof of causation, it does shed light on how psychedelic substances might influence work habits.

Psychedelics have a profound way of shifting our perspectives, and one side effect might just be the realization that we'd rather be spending our time on something more fulfilling than overtime labor.

So does taking psychedelics, connecting to your deeper self, and tranversing the global unconsciousness likely lead to spending less of our fleeting time here working overtime? No s**t.

01/09/2023

🌱There’s been a lot of discussion regarding the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) recommendation to reschedule cannabis into schedule 3 of the controlled substances act.

But what could this mean for our current regulatory landscape?

While proponents advocate for the rescheduling of Cannabis, I firmly assert that it should be entirely removed from any drug schedule. There is simply no scientific justification for Cannabis to be on there. Frankly, the United States' drug policy is mired in dysfunction and is in dire need of comprehensive reform.

Rescheduling Cannabis to Schedule 3 does not equate to federal legalization for state-sanctioned cannabis businesses. Unfortunately, Schedule 3 merely permits sale with a prescription, maintaining the illegality of non-prescription sales, even by state-sanctioned entities. To illustrate this point, one can consider Ketamine, a quintessential Schedule 3 drug.

Furthermore, there is concern that rescheduling to Schedule 3 would burden state-sanctioned ma*****na companies with onerous FDA regulations. In reality, the FDA already holds authority over cannabis, even within the confines of Schedule 1, and has maintained a hands-off approach. It is unlikely that this would undergo significant changes under Schedule 3.

Limiting our focus exclusively to the Controlled Substances Act proves insufficient for achieving the necessary reforms to address the evolving needs of our society in terms of Cannabis regulation. A series of legislative changes are needed to usher in the transformative shifts required.

The process of implementing comprehensive regulatory reform demands meticulous consideration and collective action. We must confront the intricate network of laws governing this plant to pave the way for a more enlightened, impartial, and equitable approach to its future within the United States.

Urge Congress to amend both the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act (DSHEA) and the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FD&C). This will establish a regulatory framework for Cannabis and its derivatives that transcends the current categories of over-the-counter and prescription drugs.

15/07/2023

🌿 Indica or Sativa?

We've been using these terms to classify cannabis strains, but it turns out they may not accurately predict the effects we seek.

The popular belief that is sedating and is uplifting is a simplification that doesn't reflect the plant's chemical composition.

🌱 The terms Indica and Sativa primarily describe the morphology of the plants, not their chemical profile or effects. Most cannabis today is a hybrid of the two, and genetic studies show that ancestry doesn't reliably predict a strain's chemical properties.

🔬 Research suggests that the effects of cannabis are more closely related to its unique chemical composition, including cannabinoids like THC and CBD, as well as terpenes. Terpenes, responsible for aroma and taste, may contribute to specific effects. The entourage effect, where compounds work together, further influences the experience.

🧪 The term "chemovar" is gaining popularity as a more accurate way to classify cannabis based on its chemical profile. Factors like THC and CBD concentrations, other cannabinoids, and primary terpenes become key considerations for choosing a strain or cultivar.

🌍 Understanding the origins of Indica and Sativa reveals that they were initially defined by appearance, and their classification as distinct species or subspecies remains debatable. Today's cannabis strains are mostly hybrids, making it harder to predict effects based on their claimed origins.

💡 The takeaway? Rather than relying solely on Indica or Sativa labels, delve deeper into a strain's chemical profile to understand its potential effects. The future of cannabis classification lies in analyzing cannabinoids, terpenes, and their interactions. By promoting evidence-based education. Through knowledge and exploration we truly appreciate the complexities of cannabis and make informed choices. Let's prioritize quality, evidence-based education to navigate the diverse world of cannabis effectively.
