Democratic Progressive Party William Lai Ching-te claimed a decisive victory in the Taiwanese presidential election on Saturday. He claimed 557 million votes with a majority of ballots. Compared with his competitors, Taiwan National Party Hou Yu-ih claimed 466 million of ballots and Taiwan People’s Party Ko Wen-je claimed 368 millions of ballots. However, Democratic Progressive Party failed to retain its legislative majority. Candidate Ko Wen-je said National People’s Party becomes a critical opposition party in the legislative system.
On the day before the election, three candidates held their traditional evening campaign rallies. Taiwan People’s Party Ko Wen-je, the former New Taipei Mayor, received his ‘little grass’ supporters with 380 thousands people in Ketagalan Boulevard. It formed a pale green lighting wave fore the day of election. Many KOLs and celebrities like YouTube Alisasa attended his rally and openly support his campaign.
