BTW: GOODS inflation is under control. SERVICES (eg PMHC) inflation is out of control. That's why it's economically responsible to maintain rates at their current (high) level.

27/06/2024

Thank goodness some councillors understand that putting up prices fuels inflation - in the headlines right now as having climbed once more - and threatening another interest rate rise! We have to live within our means and that means PMHC learning how to economise within its existing budget to manage better for the time being. Ratepayers are having to do this. Councils must do it, so should utilities companies, supermarkets, medical practices - to avoid an interest rate rise leading to greater homelessness. * It's not a matter of black and white: ie - no rates increase, cut back services. It's a matter of managing smarter.

Will Albo lend me, too, three quarters of a million dollars for a private plane flight if I'm in trouble overseas and rather not travel Bus or First to BKK by regular air? With no guarantee of reimbursement? Probably, after all he threw away half a billion by refusing to modify the Voice referendum to a model surveys said people would support.

Lovely new tarmac on Pacific Drive. Even a beautiful green bike lane - perfect new bitumen - a major costly project achieved!
What a contrast to the westies faced with a massive pothole on Ruins Way (well named!) for 11 days with no action from PMHC - while cars swerve dangerously into oncoming traffic to avoid damage to wheels, tyres, suspension. But .. they DID get a big yellow ring painted around it yesterday.

26/06/2024

National news tonight: inflation is still out of control. Mortgage rates could be increased again soon because inflation's out of control. KUDOS to Port Macquarie councillors who have done their bit to curb inflation by NOT increasing rates. If only supermarkets, Optus, Netflix, etc etc followed the councillors, inflation would be under control - and rents would not have to rise thanks to an interest rate increase, homelessness would be curtailed ... and so on.

26/06/2024

Misleading woman interviewed on local TV re rates. She claimed two areas of cuts would be made if rates remained at present levels. And this was immediately refuted officially by the council. So why run her interview? Including the wrong, and slanderous, claim that the resolution - maintaining current rates - is "criminal"?! She was the only one gettable who wanted a rates increase, it seems? Let's have honest reports, not interviewing people who don' t know what they're talking about, who've got it totally wrong.

26/06/2024

What a lot of left-wing political nonsense: rationalise staff costs for a year and maintain rates imposts at their current level. That was the vote. Get on with fixing potholes such as on Ruins Way where cars have swerved dangerously for 11 days.

Westfield Bondi Junction and Adelaide - Different but same incidents. Wondering what practices have been implemented at Sett City and Port Central.
Not encouraging that a hole in the Sett City pavement that caused an ankle/knee injury, reported eight weeks ago, hasn't been touched.

20/06/2024

The solstice! Winter! A rates ffffreeze! At least PMHC knows people are facing cost of living challenges. Hello Woolies, hello Optus, hello Albo ...

19/06/2024

S/he won just $12 in a recent lottery. But when the number came up again in the jackpot draw, the prize money leapt to $21,160,063. Plus $12 of course.

19/06/2024

Is this a record? Ray Hadley 2GB reports a man has been charged in PMQ with 47 offences.

19/06/2024

A good idea to get - and look at - a receipt. At Sett City newsagency an extra item for $10 was added to my card charge. Luckily I looked at the receipt as I was leaving and saw the extra $10. $10 cash was given to me with an apology. Had I not looked at it, goodbye 10 bucks.

19/06/2024

At least the car wash reflected the charge on the receipt. At Anatolian Breeze, asked if cc charge. "Don't think so". No sign on counter re a charge. For $15.90 purchase, bank shows 24c charge was made. BUT this isn't shown on the deceit receipt.

19/06/2024

Not happy with lack of transparency of local businesses re cc charges - especially those who will not accept cash. Case 1, car wash near traffic lights (increased prices, cancelled loyalty scheme, new owner?) Wanted to pay cash; cash "not accepted". Is there a cc charge? "Dunno; maybe". For $18 for basic wash, 54c charge.

13/06/2024

Domestic violence assaults in the PMHC area have risen every year over the past five years to March 2024: 329, 341, 376, 424 and 451 incidents annually. More than one violent assault every day on average. Shame. * Official NSW Crime Statistics.

11/06/2024

It's about time we had a dedicated fb page to log all the ridiculous daily delays faced by commuters --- that entirely evade our elected representatives, including PMHC who should be looking out for residents, not only because of the results of all their development approvals without adequate infrastructure.

11/06/2024

Bonza's finally a definite gonza. Announced today that a buyer couldn't be found. Staff now officially unemployed. Bad luck for PMQ where so many had benefited from its Melbourne service.

11/06/2024

Not before time (way past time) the NSW Budget next Tuesday will allocate (promise) $265m to upgrade PMBH. Half of what's being given to, for example, city hospitals like Ryde Hospital. Will there be money to fix the recurring pothole at the entry to the campus? Will the cancer institute phone be fixed? More importantly - where are the funds to fix the hospital roundabout that risks lives, causes irritation and forces ridiculous traffic jams back west along Oxley Highway daily???

15/05/2024

Sony will sell me a TV for $445. I thought, instead, I'll patronise a local reseller. But Bing Lee won't budge from wanting an extra $30 - even thought the TV is superseded, they have only one left, and they're not going to display it. There are nearly no customers for this tiny TV. I thought price-matching was the go, and would support the local economy/jobs. A stubborn sales approach.

30/04/2024

Bonza: Let's not forget local tourism authorities who've welcomed the incoming Melbourne traffic boosting our industry, and our airport authority bouncing off the boost in traffic.

24/04/2024

The third of the three Rs - Roads, Rates, Rubbish - doesn't mean ranting raving rubbish debates fomented by some councillors. Too much navel-gazing and self-promotion with a view to September's LG election is going on. An entire new team would be refreshing. Better still, administration.

18/04/2024

Bonza - Fin Review says: Entities close to Bonza have engaged corporate restructuring specialist KordaMentha as a financial adviser amid mounting pressure on the carrier’s US backer.
Hopefully this won't affect PQQ-MEL route - as the firm has not been appointed administrator, but only as financial adviser to work with the group.

20/11/2023

A local pharmacy has begun adding a surcharge for credit card use. Fair enough, go for your life, almost everyone else is into it. BUT hiding the charge at the bottom of the receipt is not on. The receipt appears to show just the item price. Only lower down in the fine print it's noted: "A surcharge of $### incl GST was applied". Only those who check their card account closely will see the extra charge.

19/11/2023

OPTUS CEO has resigned. That's fair. I'm still awaiting compensation.

19/11/2023

Stephen Keir, boss of Akubra, is such a nice chap. The early TV news today reported the company sold to Twiggy and Nicola Forrest. Let's hope it remains based in Kempsey (???), with so many long-standing workers at the fascinating factory there.

17/11/2023

Jared Knowles posted this in another forum about two hours ago:
"Any plans underway for an upgrade to Northbound exit to Port Macquarie at the Donut? Sitting on the edge of the highway a kilometre away from the exit is not safe or acceptable. Spent more time in traffic getting in to town than I did driving 30km up the highway this arvo".
The exit sorely needs fixing - slow flow is partly due to abysmal visibility at the entry to the r/about: cautious drivers have to approach entering slowly as they cannot see clearly until they get right to the top; drivers IN the r/about have to proceed with extra caution to watch for entering drivers unfamiliar with the spot who can shoot into the circulation a bit too fast.

Cassegrain Wines sold to new group - great news for this admirable local enterprise. 🥂🥂🥂

The lucky few of us who’ve stayed at the remarkable lighthouse cottages at Seal Rocks with their vista out to sea will understand the govt’s push to put a wind turbine factory offshore there is madness. God help marine traffic and ecology, the sea bed, sailing, boating, fishing, whales too. The many more who’ve enjoyed Port Stephens’ marine abundances, including its seafood cornucopia, will equally not want to see foreign structures stretching south to affect delicate Hawks Nest, Jimmys Beach, Tea Gardens, Anna Bay etc. Albanese will throw more money at this until those funds too are wasted - like so many others of his “projects”.

Farewell and thanks to Port News journo Lisa Tisdell after an amazing 30 years with the local rag! She's served our community with great talent and integrity (and remarkable modesty). Our top reporter will be missed. Best wishes for the future, Lisa. 🌹👋
