Fat. A word that has been used to shame, silence, and intimidate us our entire lives. Something society told us was the absolute worst thing you could be, and what we needed to avoid at all costs.ββββββββββββββββββBut the truth? Thatβs all bu****it.
Fat is just a physical characteristic. Everyone has it. Some have more than others. The amount of fat you have is not tied to morality. It doesnβt define us. We are fat. We have fat. And we are also beautiful, smart, funny, s*xy, lovable beings THROUGH our fatness, not in spite of it πββοΈ
Years ago, some dude in traffic called me a βfat bitch,β a term that used to really hurt me. But it didnβt sting like it used to. My gut reaction was βokay, and?β π₯΄π Not long after that, I began to learn about body positivity, fat acceptance and fat liberation β ideas that were RADICAL to a 20-something millennial who had grown up in the trenches: the βheroin chicβ diet culture years of the 90s and early 2000s. It was so cool to see fat people online just doin their thing & wearing tight clothing that we were always told to avoid.
The q***r, Black femmes who pioneered the body positivity, fat acceptance, and fat liberation movements literally changed the plus size experience. It is so incredible to witness a societal shift in real-time. To finally not wake up every day hating our existence because weβre fat. We owe them everything for that.
β¨Here at the Plus Size Section, we believe: β¨
Everyone, regardless of weight, health, ability, race, gender, s*xualityβ¦ EVERYONE deserves to exist and live exactly how they want to, without discrimination or pressure to change, no matter what. We all deserve clothing, quality healthcare, and love, period. π
