Believe it or not, your follower count is not an accurate representation of your success.

Followers are great because they help with visibility and it means your other strategies are working (hashtags, follow, engagement, etc.), but if your followers aren’t engaging with your content, aren’t clicking your profile link, aren’t buying your products, or signing up for your services or email list, then it’s all for naught.

At Social for Good, we believe in QUALITY over quantity. If you only look at one metric, make it the engagement rate. Look to increase that % each month to be sure that the followers you do have are enjoying your content. Build a relationship with them in the comments and DMs and this is how your business will grow.

Dianne was in 7th grade, the only Black child in her class in a progressive integrated Kansas City junior high school circa 1963. They had been going through the typical American history textbook that day and just reviewed the requisite three paragraphs on slavery. She sank down into her chair, feeling the attention of all the other students who seemed to be silently asking, “Why didn’t your people just get up and walk off the plantation?”⁠

The words, echoing the prejudices of the time, stripped Dianne of her identity, self-worth, and dignity. She couldn't help but sense the burning eyes of her classmates, each one a silent question, a judgment unspoken.⁠

Fortunately, Dianne had a family who nurtured her spirit and helped her challenge the one-sided history presented in the textbook. Their support, along with her own resilience, ignited a lifelong passion for justice. From a young age, Dianne realized that the fight for equality was not just about external actions but also about the stories we tell, the narratives that shape our understanding of the world.⁠

Let's talk burnout.

We know, not the most exciting thing to talk about, especially when your purpose is so impactful. But it's important to recognize the signs and symptoms of burnout in social impact work and its effects on your organization.

Burnout can affect anyone in any job, but the nonprofit sector sees it the most. In a survey of nonprofit leaders, 88% of them said they were approaching or experiencing burnout.

This is alarming on many levels. Consider the fact that work-related burnout usually happens slowly and builds over time. Left unchecked, we become a shell of our former selves. And then we’re surprised when one small spark results in a full-on wildfire.
