600 miles of 86 ownership, I’ve enjoyed it. I think it’s a good balance between modern technology and sports car. This may very well be one of the last “drivers” car of the era. I can’t wait to finish engine break in, and let it loose! But I also feel the urge to keep the miles low. 😅

I drove GR86 yesterday on touge for nearly an hour and it was very enjoyable. It was a slow and easy pace since engine is still under break in period.

IMPRESSION: The 215 tires limit grip level, however the 86 is still very stable. Where I expected under steer I was met with more rotation. The dampers absorb bumps in street well but may be soft for circuit use. I look forward to driving this setup further. I also enjoyed timing and racing data feature along with track mode.

I’m treating it as an assignment to get used to the car before ramping up to full power. The first 100 miles has been already very enjoyable. Perhaps I should record progress as well.

昨日GR86で峠を1時間近く運転しましたが、とても楽しかったです。まだエンジンの慣らし期間中なので、ゆっくりとしたペースでした。

インプレッション: 215 タイヤではグリップレベルが制限されますが、86 は依然として非常に安定しています。アンダーステア​​を期待していたところに、より多くの回転が与えられました。ダンパーはストリートでは衝撃をよく吸収しますが、サーキットで使用する場合は柔らかいかもしれません。このセットアップをさらに推進することを楽しみにしています。トラックモードに加えて、タイミングとレーシングデータ機能も楽しみました。

Yesterday I took delivery of my new GR86. When I saw release model in 22’ I fell in love but I couldn’t afford it as I was a university student.

2 years later I’m excited to own brand new GR86! They say 86 is a car that teaches driver best. I wonder how it will compare to FD3S.

I swapped out the regamaster replica for .wheel GTX01. I’m happy I found the spec I would like to run for attack, but the 265 Potenza RE71RS is pushing the limit for stock fender.

Perhaps I’ll change suspension geometry or add front overfender 🤔. For now, I adjusted height to compensate for larger tires.

Keep upgrading, training and testing my skills. Let’s go make a name for ourselves, FD3S.

I haven’t driven the FD in over a month, so the battery died 😂. But I revived it and met up with the boys to have all 3 cars together for the first time in a while 😆.

Today we also installed the bucket seat that was previously too big and developed a prototype custom seat bracket that works with stock FD3S seat rail.

Looking forward to getting used to the new setup, I think I’m going to have a hard time since the FD has such a small cockpit.

This weekend I went and bought a set of lightweight alloy Regamaster replica. I thought long and hard about ordering a set online but it was very costly and I could hardly find any FD3S spec.

I wasn’t sure if I would like the look, so I sourced the set locally and put them on for FD to wear in the meantime since it had no wheels. I think replica is fine for now as availability is hard, and I won’t feel bad for bashing it up on the track 💀.

I wonder if it will be destroyed easily on track 🤔.

Earlier this week I received an offer for the DC5 and ended up selling it. New buyer also wanted TE37 with it, and offered accordingly so now the RX7 has no wheels!

I think ultimately I was okay with selling it and wanted to sell it because as much as I love Honda, rotary cars always resonate with my spirit. I thought it would be sensible and tried to convince myself that Honda would be good to race in (which it is), but I’m stubborn and really want to race and drive rotary.

I truly am an indecisive fellow 😅. I do think I will continue to build Honda as a hobby though, they’re super easy. I’ve learned a lot during this DC5 ownership and will apply it to the future.

I want to build something that can be remembered, something of pure enjoyment and driver pleasure. I’ve been thinking about what I’d like to do to the DC5, but I feel like I am neglecting the FD.

I think a small hiatus from the FD will be healthy. I can learn on a new path and take my new-found approach and apply it to the FD to be the ultimate machine.

Trying to enjoy and hang onto car season before winter settles in. I love talking about cars, and spending time with friends I don’t get to see often.

I also adjusted height a little bit on the DC5 to better fit the wheels, though I will need supporting suspension to keep geometry level.

Thank you RX7 for sharing your parts with DC5~

I had trouble developing seat rail that would fit 20 inch seat in the FD, so out of curiosity I put some of FD parts onto DC5. I plan to use DC5 to develop track knowledge and improve my race craft.

245/17 R

Rim: 98’ Production RAYS ENGINEERING TE37
17x9.5 et40 F
17x8.5 et40 R

No rub on full soft and stiff setting. Excited to see the performance gain on my next track day. Previous track day I used stock Type S seats and 225 Hankook RS4 Squared with DC5R wheels.

Lowering car could benefit its look. But sadly will compromise suspension geometry. I will need new suspension setup if I want to properly lower it.
