Came across this event poster from 2008. This idea morphed into an internet radio show that lasted 4 years and had some legendary guests. Would be curious to see if there was any interest to do a metal night someday somewhere.

Darkness descends on Dunedin on Friday night. We're spinning all manner of dark vibes to keep the wound fresh for Halloween.

Expect to hear from Killing Joke, Siouxsie, Bowie, Misfits, Depeche Mode, The Cure, Joy Division, Bauhaus, Sisters of Mercy, Cramps, Sabbath, Ministry, and The Stones just to name a few.
Don't expect Ghostbusters.

October holds a lot of dark and delicious activities coming up at Caledonia. Backspin! will be doing our part on Friday, October 20.

We'll be painting Dunedin black with an evening rich with dark sounds from all corners of the underground. There won't be much material that charted, and we won't be busting any ghosts.

You can expect horror punk/metal/goth/darkwave, as well as some classics that scared the establishment, not to mention it's new album release day for the final Stones album! That's how we're going to paint Dunedin black! Bring a friend to sulk with!

The Golden Age of Hip Hop.
That's what they call that period of time from the mid 80's to the mid 90's when hip hop was really developing the culture and the material was super creative.

That's when the DJ's and producers were crate-digging, and coming up with innovative ways to use beats and samples. It was a time when the MC's played around with vocabulary, cadence, and flow in ways we hadn't heard before, and haven't really heard much since.

It was an era that gave us so many styles; Old School/New School, Boom Bap, West Coast, Miami Bass, Gangsta/G-Funk, the Native Tongues, and a crossover into Rock that effected multiple genres...

It was an era that had it's share of bragging and boasting, but also had an element of education, social identity, and a movement to uplift a race.

Friday, March 10! We’re moving Backspin! up one week this month, as St. Pat has stepped into our usual spot.

St. Practice Day will be our pre-game party. You can expect some Celtic punk, Celtic rock, some traditional Irish drinking music, and a healthy mix of old school punk rock, because we’re Dunedin, and that’s what we do.

We’ll get your Paddy goin’ and your liver well-lubed for the big day!
