The glass snake eyes have arrived from the taxidermy supply company, and I made some more progress on the rattlesnake.
The next step will be to use the wood burner with a snake scale tips and texture the whole thing.

The carving has begun! So far, this sapele isn't as hard to carve as I thought it would be. With sharp tools, it's not that much different from carving bass wood.

Tonight I dyed the top of my workbench with blue aniline dye. It should lighten a bit once it dries.
The blue color will help me to isolate the workbench from the workpiece when I am doing color correction.

I finished shaping the overlaps and sanded everything to 240 grit (except for the textured border, which will not be sanded).
These sanding sticks are very useful on carvings.

Today I started making twelve custom fence posts out of 10-foot redwood 4x4s.
There is one more bevel to cut on all of them, and then I am going to flame finish them.

This video took very long to edit, but I am really happy with how it came out.
There are also plans available for this project.

I hope you all really like that one specific transition that lasts 1.5 seconds in the video.

I got a shirt printed from Amazon Merch to compare it to my Teespring shirts.
Pros: the colors are good, the print is a little thicker, and the printable area is larger.
Cons: the medium feels more like a large, the material is not as soft.

I really like the material on the Teespring premium tri-blend shirts, so I will continue linking to that one from my website.

The first coffee plant is looking good, and my other two coffee plants arrived today. They have much larger leaves.
Soon I will need to design a miniature greenhouse for growing stuff like this that is suited for a lower latitude.

I treated the outside of the coffee mug planter with some timber oil. The penetrating oil preserves the wood, and it has a little bit of red pigment in it, which helps the redwood look nice for longer.
Now I need to wait for my coffee plant to arrive

I've cut a bottom piece and glued up all the staves with polyurethane glue (not sponsored). The glue expands a bit, but not as much as Gorilla Glue.
I wrapped the whole thing in parchment paper and used ratchet straps and bungee cords to keep everything tight while the glue dries. The biscuits help a lot to keep everything in place.

I did a little bit of hand planing to fine-tune the angle of two of the staves and get a tighter fit.
Then I used a ratchet strap to pull the pieces together.
Tomorrow I will cut the bottom piece and glue up the staves with polyurethane glue.

The coffee mug planter is shaping up nicely. Next step is to glue the barrel together with the bottom installed, and then hand plane down the staves to make it round and smooth.
The mug is very heavy and I need both hands to lift it. Hopefully after some planing and the wood drying it will be lighter.

Bad news regarding the glue up. The joints came loose while I was cutting the curve with a jigsaw. The wood wasn't dry enough yet, so the glue didn't dry.
I'll have to wait for it to dry and then chisel off the glue. Next time I will try gluing it with epoxy and cleaning the joint with acetone first to dry it out.

I've got the splines glued in to the handle. The rice dried it a bit, but there is still some moisture in the wood.
I'm hoping that if the splines shrink, the piece containing them will also shrink.

I placed the pieces in a bag full of rice and set it in the sun to dry out the wood. It seems to be working!

I cut the grooves in the handle pieces to house the splines, using a dado stack and a tenon jig.
By keeping the same face of all of the pieces against the fence, I ensured the grooves line up.
I am not concerned about the tearout, since the handle will be trimmed down.

I might give it another day before gluing them, because the redwood is still quite wet.

I got most of the pieces cut for the coffee mug. It is going to be a planter box shaped like a coffee mug.
The body is made of staves, and the handle will need some big splines to reinforce the end grain connections.
