To our listeners,

We’d like to acknowledge mistakes that were made and harm that was caused in our last episode. Regardless of that not being our intention, it was the impact. We would also like to apologize to those who were harmed, and would appreciate the opportunity to work towards repairing that. We’re still learning, and are grateful to those that reached out to us so that we can take accountability.

The way that we communicated some of our experiences didn’t line up with the values that we have, which as a result, hurt a lot of people. We also left folks out of a conversation that they definitely should have been a part of it.

The Smoke Break has always been open to suggestions and criticism. We want people to feel safe approaching us when they feel we’ve misspoken, over stepped, or could have done more to interrupt what someone else was saying. Our goal is to do a better job of including the voices of people with lived experiences so they can tell their stories.

We are currently working with some of those who have been most impacted on what repair might look like and on our next episode will make efforts to address the concerns that have been raised. We want to honor the people who came forward and said “I was hurt when I heard this but I believe you can do better.”

The Smoke Break’s stance has been and always will be, anti people-harming-people. Whether that means interpersonally, globally, economically, or politically. Our intent has been to be on the side of those most impacted by oppressive systems.

We’re anti people-harming-people.

And even when we’re the ones who caused harm, we’re still on your side, and it’s our hope to keep learning so that we can move forward in community with everyone we care about. Thanks to everyone that reached out to help us be better. Your time and input has been invaluable.

The Smoke Break is no longer a part of Shady Pines Radio and Pretty Dope Xperience Radio.

The decision was hard because when Brian and Callie asked me to do the show 3 years ago, I was ecstatic! And every Saturday since has been committed to either doing it live or recording it for Sunday mornings.

But the truth is, having a new episode, new topics, and new guests every single week got to be exhausting. Then on top of that video editing all the CLIPS!!!

I want to look forward to doing the show again.

I want the guests to get their time to shine and do what they do best in front of an audience of people.

I want to create an non-judgemental environment for people to feel safe talking about their mental health. A place where we feel comfortable to laugh at our mistakes and acknowledge our growth.

But most importantly, I want to give every guest the genuine attention they deserve and every listener a show they won’t get anywhere else.

So although we will no longer be a weekly podcast. We will be evolving into a monthly live show. Details to come.

This show means a lot to me and I want to see it grow into something really amazing so I hope y’all can come out and be a part of this journey with us.

And who knows, maybe we’ll do an in studio episode here and there. I guess you’ll just have to keep an eye out…
