The treatment of climate anxiety is particularly difficult because, unlike other forms of anxiety, such as the fear of flying, ecological anxiety is not necessarily an overreaction that can be managed by countering negative thoughts (such as learning to replace “we are going to crash” with “planes take off and land safely every day”).
Eco-anxiety is a new term that means “chronic fear of environmental doom,” and more than 50 percent of young people have it.
