Special post by Heather Huntington here: I know it's Xmas Eve, but I have to tell you that is actually a baker's dozen because there is no UDMC without Danielle Evenson

The podcast was entirely Danielle's idea. And as usual, it was a great one. She is funny and fast, a bursting bounty of ideas pitched confidently whenever you need. She is the first draft to my second, the enthusiasm to my sarcasm, the Dawn to my Hadley.

She is, simply, the most wonderful writing partner I could ask for. And not just because she does all the stuff I hate and because she knows where all the best bathrooms are located. She's also a really magnificent friend.

Merry Christmas, everyone. May you all have a Danielle Evenson in your life.

And, of course, this 12th Day Of Shmoop goes out to Elisa Daniels Channell, literally the best goddamn editor anyone could ever ask for.

We've worked with her a few times -- for audio and video editing -- and we can confidently tell you she is so gifted that if she is ever mentioned, we have to grind the conversation to a halt so we can yell about how good she is.

We cannot stress this enough: you give Elisa something to edit and she not only just gets what you want and executes it quickly and without need of any hand-holding, but fully finds jokes and beats you didn't know were there and makes it so much better.

We love her so much. She is our Thelma Schoonmaker and we feel so lucky we know her. You would be a fool not to work with her if you had the chance.

Oh, did you think your were over just because we had shmooped over all the actors? Then you don't know us well at all.

Nick Campbell recorded sound and it sounds so goddamn good we could s**t ourselves... more than usual.

Have you heard the podcast yet? It sounds like a goddamn proper radio play. We can't stop gushing about the production quality because not only were our actors tremendous, but we had Nick making them sound great. He is quiet, competent, rolls with things, and most importantly really good at his job.

Getting our shmoop in under the wire for Jorge Emanuel Berrios AKA Grandpa and town drunk/Garth Brooks enthusiast, Ken Murphy.

Jorge is another of our CBS showcase alums, and when we think about distilling his essence to his core, it's brimming with positivity and enthusiasm.

Our fave is how he scolds, I DON'T EAT NUTS, and we don't believe for a second that his Chris Gaines cover band would make the cows stampede.

20/12/2019

On the 9th Day of Shmoop, we celebrate Meghan Parks Sanders, one of our favorite actors and people.

Meghan is super talented, funny AF and super there for us. Her line readings are perfect, her delivery is amazing, and she is just so goddamn reliably funny and good. No matter what our ridiculous ask, she is there for us - in all the ways.

Including as Hazel, the old bat who is proud as punch as everything she does -- from willfully giving people food poisoning to angling on other people's husbands. We love Hazel, and we love her all the more when Meghan plays her. When she calls Joe and Mabel "these two dodos," our hearts fill with joy.

19/12/2019

On the 8th Day of Shmoop we celebrate Ethan Stanislawski, a fellow writer from CBS Showcase and lucky for us, performer.

Ethan has the elusive quality of being able to deliver the part of Dave, a sweet, Midwestern guy who maybe loves his livestock a little too much without being totally creepy. Which, let's face it, is a tough needle to thread.

I love it very very much when Dawn says, "You're a very lonely guy aren't you" and he jumps on it so quickly with "YES." And also when he says "What's yoga?"

Thank you so much for being our leading man, Ethan! And thank Mrs. Vittles for sharing you with us.

18/12/2019

Let's get shmoopy about Ryann Wern, one of our favorite friends from The Jane Club, both wonderful supporters of women.

Ryann's dry, deadpan, and over it farming CFO, Jennifer Savage, is deeply funny. I fully believe she would dose cows and she elevates the joke line, "same" to an art form. We love you Ryann!

17/12/2019

On the 6th Day of Shmoop we shmoop about John Loos, AKA Judith Light in the body of a big buff man-babe.

John Loos is as funny as he is sweet, which is to say a very.

And goddamn if he didn't bring it for us. His accent as Jebediah was perfect, and we we actually rolled on the ground laughing when he was Clovis. Lean in, gurl.

We are so very, very lucky to have him.

17/12/2019

Today we are shmoopy about our beloved Joe Conti.

We met Joe at the CBS Showcase and immediately fell in love. This m**o is as talented as he is beautiful, which is to say very goddamn talented and beautiful. He has the voice of an angel, can dance, choreograph, is smart AF about theater and musicals, is lovely, a hard worker, the teamiest of players, and has the secret talent of smoothing warring factions.

We cannot with how much we love this guy and how talented he is. And we write stuff for him whenever we get the chance because we are no dummies, including his part here.

The way he says his character's name, "Joe Refsland," when he's introducing himself to the Dawn and Hadley, as though he's slating for a part, makes our hearts soar. That and his little "uff" when Mabel and Hazel try to show off his dance belt.

16/12/2019

This 4th Day of Shmoop is dedicated to Lauren Blumenfeld (Mel and Mabel). We met Lauren as part of our group at The Orchard Project this summer.

Not only is she a terrific funny writer, but she is a terrific funny performer. Lauren is literally the epitome of quirky charm and I honestly don't know how people don't pass out from being on the receiving end her smiling eyes, adorable voice and personal warmth all at the same time.

Lauren honestly knocked it so far out of the park on both her parts that I cannot pick which one I like better, let alone a favorite line. Her Mel is amazingly weird "HEY HO I'M JUST HERE TO GUT SOME FISH," and her Mabel is absolutely bats**t. I love it -- and her -- so much I basically lose my mind every time you hear her on the podcast. She is perfect.

15/12/2019

On the 3rd day of shmoop Unsolved Death Murder Crimes with Dawn and Hadley gave to us Elliot woods, the best worst sheriff anyone could hope for.

We met Elliot at a Rao table reading event and he laughed so hard at all our groaner jokes that I was immediately in love.

Elliot brought more compassion and flavor to sheriff drew than We ever envisioned and I love his reaction to the good b**b more than anything.

13/12/2019

2nd Day of Shmoop goes out to our co-lead, Sarah Randall Hunt who plays Hadley. We discovered her at the Breakthrough Reading Series last spring when we put up Sheila & Mo.

Not only is she adorable, she's a goddamn gem who makes it look easy to find the charm in complex, straight (wo)man roles. AND she and Jessica DiGiovanni are so incredible together it literally made me go, "Oh, that's why they do chemistry tests with actors."

She is a delight and we love her.

12/12/2019

And so begins my 12 Days of Shmoop for Danielle Evenson's and my Unsolved Death Murder Crimes with Dawn and Hadley radio play.

We are so thrilled with how it came out, and so lucky to get to work with such phenomenal people. That includes Jessica DiGiovanni, an actress we met at one of our manager's table reads and immediately fell in love with.

She is so goddamn talented. And enthusiastic and up for anything, we put her in everything we can. She is currently performing in a run of Seared at the MCC Theater off-broadway and we know why.

We love you Jessica, you are the goddamn BEST.
