Chrissy Talent, a senior majoring in History, spent the summer interning for Our American Stories in Oxford, Mississippi. She got to interview, edit, and produce stories like the history of pinball and an umbrella cover museum (not to be confused with an umbrella museum). She got a lot of other interviews as well that she intends to produce over the semester doing freelance work for Our American Stories.
One favorite memory was her Zoom interview with Nancy 3. Hoffman (yes, her middle name is a number), the curator of the umbrella cover museum. She learned a lot about the importance of finding joy in the mundane from Ms. Hoffman--that was the whole point of her museum, and she thinks Ms. Hoffman's entire demeanor proved that finding joy in the mundane makes people more joyful on the whole. Plus, Ms. Hoffman played her accordion for her. Who couldn't love that?
Chrissy said her work at WRFH definitely prepared her. Knowing the basics of Audition helped her hit the ground running. She was able to get interviews right away because she felt comfortable with her ability to start editing them on her own. Plus, it made her training quicker and easier because they were able to skip to the less basic aspects of Audition.
