🚀 Exciting Breakthrough in TMD Research! 🌟

An effective search strategy and an automated classifier to streamline finding research articles on temporomandibular disorders (TMD) was developed in this investigation🧐.

An Automated Classifier (AC) was validated against a regular Comprehensive Search Strategy (SS) for Temporomandibular Disorders Research articles.

📈 Key Highlights:

✅ SS now captures 99.5% of relevant studies!

✅ Automated Classifier (AC) accurately detects 88.04% in recent tests.

✅ Initially, SS had 89.34% recall, and AC detected 70.05%. Major improvements made!

✅ Tested on 1271 studies from 100 systematic reviews (2002–2022).

💡 This game-changer helps build an updated digital TMD research repository!

Ready to revolutionize TMD research! 🌐🎉

Congratulations .oyarzo .lunecke_bruxdof and team for this great publication.

💉 Botulinum Toxin A and Masseter Hypertrophy Reduction

This study assessed the effectiveness and potential adverse effects of single and multiple botulinum toxin A (BoNT‐A) injections for masseter hypertrophy (MH). Twenty-six women affected by lower facial enlargement due to MH received 75 U of BoNT‐A in each masseter muscle. After three months, they were randomly assigned either a second treatment of Saline Solution or BoNT‐A.

📊 Results and Observations

Evaluations included muscle thickness, electrical activity (EMG), masticatory performance, and subjective perception of MH, with follow-ups at 1, 3, and 6 months. Results showed a significant decrease in left masseter muscle thickness for the BoNT‐A group at 6 months. The EMG results indicated higher masseter activity in the Saline Solution group at 6 months. Masticatory performance showed no significant differences, although subjective perception improved at the 1-month follow-up for the BoNT‐A group.

🤝 Essential Patient Communication
The study concludes that BoNT‐A is effective for treating MH but that multiple injections may have adverse effects. It is very important to be honest with our patients about both the positive outcomes and potential risks associated with multiple injections to build trust and ensure well-informed decisions.

Congratulations to our member for his important publication.

The study we are presenting today, has a longitudinal design. It was demonstrated that, after controlling some variables (e.g. smoking, alcohol, obesity and hypertension, among others), patients with Temporomandibular Disorders have higher risk of developing migraine.
This is not true for all kind of migraines. However, in those influenced by the occurrence of Temporomandibular Disorders, the role of dentists is determinant.
.
Do you know how to prevent migraine by treating Temporomandibular Disorders?
——

09/02/2024

The Decision Tree for TMD diagnostic criteria is a crucial tool for assessing and managing TMD-related pain and headaches.

It enables healthcare professionals to systematically differentiate between TMD subtypes, guiding personalized treatment plans based on specific clinical features. Aligning the diagnosis with the corresponding subtype allows for targeted interventions, optimizing patient outcomes.

Additionally, the Decision Tree facilitates follow-up treatments, enabling clinicians to monitor progress and adjust interventions as needed. It also supports the comparison of investigation results, allowing for a comprehensive evaluation of treatment efficacy.

The examination includes questions about symptoms and function, as well as a clinical assessment, ensuring a thorough and holistic approach to TMD evaluation and management. Overall, this structured approach provides a comprehensive, patient-centered paradigm for evaluating and managing TMD-related pain and headaches, driving improved patient care and also the possibility of comparing results among investigations.

INfORM has delivered numerous lectures and courses for non-specialist dentists. These endeavors have consistently shown that the painful TMDs phenotype can be reliably and validly identified across various settings, rivaling the diagnostic accuracy of any medical disorder.

Although pain is inherently subjective, the clinical manifestations of pain can be rigorously evaluated.

Despite extensive international efforts to integrate the DC/TMD since its release, its utilization in non-specialist dental settings has regrettably remained minimal.

This low adoption appears to be attributed to three primary barriers: (i) the extensive training required to effectively use the DC/TMD; (ii) the perception that the clinical ex*****on of the physical examination is excessively time-consuming; and (iii) the complexity associated with implementing the psychosocial axis (Axis 2).

These were the reasons to create the brief version of the DC/TMD.

If you want this article, follow all the steps:
