Who doesn't love receiving letters, regardless of the author's handwriting? 😄

'Dear Ali' letters aren't handwritten, but they are just as special. They're from and who are looking for advice about settling into their new lives.

🤯 - I've been abroad (out of the US) for 25% of my life!

'Time flies when you're having fun;' but honestly, lots of things were ANTI-FUN.

I NEVER wanted to move to London?

My old roommate (in Madison, WI) loooved London. She visited her British ex-boyfriend there one summer and raved about the sophisticated culture and commonsensical lifestyle.

I listened to her wax poetic about it, the first five (out of 50+) times. It sounded cool: Buckingham Palace and high tea with crumpets, and all that. But I wanted to visit a bunch of other places first.

I finally *did* visit London three years later, knowing that my then-boyfriend would imminently propose and that I would end up settling down as a married woman… Wow-za!

Hilariously, our courtship was so brief, some of my husband’s friends and family suspected that I was desperate to move here, lol. 

Erm, nope… Not even remotely… No way, Jose. 

But, to cut a four-year story short, I eventually came to peace with the move. Dare I say, I even found great happiness? It’s true. :D

I wish I could reassure my ‘past self’ that I’d find my way. I’d have saved myself a few big-ass buckets of tears and a whole lotta stress.

However, I can’t wait to help other find their stride in their new lives.
