A taxi owner has been fatally wounded by unknown gunmen at Dlamini extension next to the Shell garage.

This incident comes at the time where different stakeholders in the taxi industry are giving evidence before the Gauteng Taxi Violence commission of inquiry.

This week the commission heard that policemen, ex-convicts and people who have been fired by banks are coming in as they please to become taxi owners in Gauteng as there is no proper vetting.

The commission is set to find underlying reasons for the recurring conflict, violence, fatalities, and instability within the minibus taxi-type service industry within Gauteng.

Police have confirmed that the deceased was affiliated to the Nancefield-Dube West Taxi Association (Nanduwe)

Moroka SAPS spokesperson Captain Mpande Khoza says the taxi owner was declared dead at the scene by paramedics.

“A group of men about 4 of them they alighted from a white Polo, the deceased was busy fixing his car at the time of the incident, several shots were fired fatally wounding him.

“It is clear that this was a planned hit, a case of murder has been opened at Moroka SAPS. No arrests have been made as yet,” says Khoza.

Anyone with information about the fatal shooting is urged to inform their nearest police station_

A 23-year-old man has been attacked and killed by residents after he allegedly murdered his 11-year-old old niece in Kagiso.

The man allegedly attacked the 11-year-old boy, the motive is unknown at the moment.

One of the tenants who tried to stop him was overpowered.

He then decided to lock the man and the boy inside a shack and went to seek help.

A few minutes later, the suspect jumped out of the window and fled the scene.

Residents gave chase and managed to apprehend him.

Police spokesperson Solomon Sibiya says he was assaulted and when they realized that he had killed his niece, they assaulted him further until he died.

“The motive for the attack on the 11-year-old is unknown and Police have opened two murder dockets and are investigating further.”

“No one has been arrested as yet in connection with the attack and killing of the deceased suspect,” says Sibiya.

“We discourage at all costs the attack and people taking the law into their own hands,” added Sibiya_
