The half-Jewish N**i who saved the Lubavitcher Rebbe

Few people know that during WWII, the Lubavitcher Rebbe owed his life to a half-Jewish N**i officer in the Third Reich's military intelligence. That, according to filmmaker Larry Price, whose documentary "The Chabad Rebbe and the German Officer," debuted on Israel TV on the eve of Yom Ha’Shoah. http://bit.ly/lwSohE

Thanks to the late Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson, Chabad Lubavitch is a well-known and powerful Hasidic movement. But few people know that the rebbe's predecessor, Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Schneerson, owes his life to a half-Jewish N**i officer acting under the direct order of the head of the Third Reich

“I met Zero Mostel when I was 14,” says Jim Brochu. At age 23, actor Brochu was sized up by a NY reviewer, “If ever they do Zero Mostel’s life story, this is the guy who should play him.” With that in mind, decades later Brochu finally wrote - and since 2009 has starred in - Zero Hour, brought to Toronto by the Harold Green Jewish Theatre Company. It’s a one-man narrative of the life and career of the legendary Mostel, who played Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof on Broadway, and stole the show in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum and The Producers.

Actor Marc Bendavid performed in Art of Time Ensemble’s “War of the Worlds”, a re-creation of Orson Welles’ infamous 1938 radio drama broadcast that caused panic when listeners thought it was reporting an actual Martian invasion. Of his co-stars, seasoned film/TV veterans Nicholas Campbell and Don McKellar, Bendavid told Friday Night magazine, “It’s a full room; there’s lots of personality.” The 28 year old Bendavid grew up in Richmond Hill and started acting at age 10 at the Leah Posluns Theatre. A grad of Montreal’s National Theatre School of Canada, he has performed to great reviews on stage and in film.

The sold out second installment of the JNF Mother Daughter series took place on March 16, 2011. The Mother Daughter Beauty Blitz was an evening of glamour and pampering for the women who attended. The evening consisted of various different beauty stations offering guests an opportunity to pamper themselves while raising funds to build a JNF therapy garden in Be’er Sheva for young adults living with autism in cooperation with the Israeli Society for Autistic Children (ALUT).
Ladies were given beauty advice and a custom lipstick color from make-up artist Maureen Greenstein, received a personalized bottle of perfume from Scents of the Zodiac, had their hair styled by Capelli’s Charlie and got mini manicures by Marvel Esthetics. All these wonderful opportunities to be pampered were complimented by a chocolate and wine bar by PR Creative Caterers.
