Washington: US biotech firm Moderna on Monday announced its experimental vaccine against Covid-19 was 94.5 percent effective, marking a second major breakthrough in the vaccine hunt.
Moderna released early results from a clinical trial with more than 30,000 participants, after US pharmaceutical company Pfizer and its German partner BioNTech last week said their vaccine was 90 percent effective.

Both vaccine frontrunners are based on a new platform called messenger RNA, which is faster to produce than traditional vaccines and effectively turn human cells into vaccine factories.

Lal Bahadur Shastri took birth on October 2 in the year 1904, to Smt. Ramdulari Devi and Sharada Prasad Srivastava, in Mughalsarai, United Provinces that is now ‘Uttar Pradesh’. Lal Bahadur Shastri and Mahatma Gandhi, the father of the nation have their birthdays on the same date on 2nd October.
Lal Bahadur Shastri was against the usual caste system in our country. Therefore, he made a decision to drop his surname and not to use it anywhere officially. He got the title “Shastri” after the completion of his graduation at the Kashi Vidyapeeth in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh in the year 1925. The title “Shastri” means a “scholar” or a person that is skilful in the “Holy Scriptures”.
Lal Bahadur Shastri was the second honourable Prime Minister of India after the independence of the country. He took an oath after the sudden death of Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of our Nation. Relatively, he was new to the high office, he led the country positively through the India-Pakistan War in the year 1965. And that was a hugely successful event for the country. He spread the slogan saying “Jai Jawan Jai Kisan”. Through the slogan, he started making people recognize the necessity for self-sustenance and self-reliance.

Gandhi Jayanti is celebrated every year on October 2 to honour the legendary leader, Mahatma Gandhi without whom, India wouldn’t have been free from the clutches of the Britishers. His non-violent ways united millions of people to follow the path of ‘Ahimsa’ and protest against the evil oppression. Mahatma Gandhi left behind a legacy to inspire people and unify with brotherhood in arms. October 2 has been announced as a national holiday in India but people across the country and globe celebrate the occasion by participating in functions, theatres, community services, etc. Schools and educational institutions hold activities like essay-writing, art and poetry competitions, and plays to commemorate Gandhi’s ideologies once again.

WASHINGTON : The federal government outlined a sweeping plan Wednesday to make vaccines for COVID-19 available for free to all Americans, even as polls show a strong undercurrent of skepticism rippling across the land.
In a report to Congress and an accompanying “playbook" for states and localities, federal health agencies and the Defense Department sketched out complex plans for a vaccination campaign to begin gradually in January or possibly later this year, eventually ramping up to reach any American who wants a shot. The Pentagon is involved with the distribution of vaccines, but civilian health workers will be the ones giving shots.

Former Jawaharlal Nehru University student Umar Khalid has been arrested by the Delhi Police's special cell for his alleged role in the riots that broke out in north-east neighbourhoods of the national capital in February this year.
Umar Khalid was earlier charged under the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in another case related to the riots. His mobile phone has been seized by the police, news agency PTI reported.

"After 11 hours of interrogation, the Delhi Police Special Cell has arrested Umar Khalid as a conspirator in the Delhi Riots case. The fairy tale narrative that DP (Delhi Police) has been spinning and criminalising protests in the garb of investigating riots, finds yet another victim," United Against Hate, an activist group whose member is Umar Khalid, said in a statement on Sunday.
