Paul Moore of Moore Racing said this on the matter of jockeys getting paid to ride ATVs for the owners.
"The way the sport is going we are headed towards the direction that you will need a sub 100lb rider to be competitive and relevant. It used to be that 120lb rider will get the job done. But now 120lb riders are getting looked over because they are too heavy.
This is going to bring a whole new breed of people to the sport who may or may not possess the skills necessary to safely handle a bike capable of running the numbers we are chasing.
I see more emphasis on rider weight than rider competency.
Are we going to see people show up who see dollar signs and not have the skills necessary?
Not ONE person can deny that the past two or so years in this sport have been beyond tragic.
We as a sport need to do better.
To keep racers and spectators safer.
It’s the most ignored and overlooked aspect of the sport that we all love.
So I guess what I am saying is this. If a person wants to charge that’s fine. If they wanna do it for the thrill… that’s fine too.
But the most important thing is their safety and competency
You don’t wanna live through it when something goes wrong."
Wise words from one the best in our sport.
