SESA issues recommendations to prevent acute diarrheal diseases
The Ministry of Health (SESA) reports that according to the World Health Organization (WHO), diarrhea is the passage of three or more loose or liquid stools per day, or more frequently than is normal for the individual.
Diarrheal diseases are a leading cause of childhood morbidity and mortality worldwide.
Diarrhea is usually a symptom of an infection in the intestinal tract, which can be caused by a variety of bacterial, viral, and parasitic organisms.
The infection is transmitted through contaminated food or drinking water, or from person to person as a result of poor hygiene.
Cases tend to increase during hot weather. Diarrhea can last for several days and can leave the body without the necessary water and salts for survival.
It should be noted that interventions to prevent diarrhea, including clean drinking water, improved sanitation, and handwashing with soap, can reduce the risk of disease.
Diarrhea should be treated with oral rehydration solution - which can be Vida Suero Oral (VSO) - or intravenous infusion to replace the water and electrolytes lost by the body.
As of epidemiological week 11 in 2023, there have been 14,576 cases of acute diarrheal disease registered in public sector institutions in the state of Queretaro.
If diarrhea occurs, it is necessary to go to the health center so that a doctor can examine the patient and indicate the appropriate treatment.
The Ministry of Health of the state of Queretaro issues the following recommendations to prevent acute diarrheal diseases:
