In a world divided by borders and biases, music has become a language and a tool that blurs all boundaries and binds everyone together. No matter what religion you believe in or rituals you follow, music isn’t determined by any of it.
שי בן צור - Shye Ben Tzur is one such artist who has managed to hop across cultural divides and border and instead, amalgamate them through his creation.

One could say that the classical music scene is saturated – there have been enough number of artists who have accomplished whatever could possibly be and there has been plenty of exploration done in this space.

But yet, there are some artists who are trying their hand at innovation, learning and creation in this genre, without compromising on the essence of what classical music is. One amongst them is the Parisian upright bass player, Renaud Garcia-Fons.

Gender is a broad subject on which usually there is no real consensus. A few of us choose to turn a blind eye to it, a few of us are really charged up about it while most others don’t have an opinion regarding it.

However, for Naia Izumi, gender seemed to form the crux of his identity as a person and even a musician.

While music-making is a process in itself, blending it with other art forms can be an uphill task if attempted at. The challenges can be numerous, especially that of maintaining the integrity of both art forms.

Ahmedabad based band MUKT has effectively made a successful attempt at this by exclusively delivering literature through the medium of fusion rock.

If there’s a voice and personality that resonates and echoes power, for me, personally, it is Dobet Gnahoré.

The very first time I heard her, I felt rejuvenated and full of hope. And that has been the case ever since. Dobet’s character is unique, unlike many others you may come across – she is bold, loud and yet kind. She leaves no stone unturned when it comes to her musicality and her songwriting echoes the sentiment of millions.

A bit of surprise, a bit of boldness and a lot of intensity – that is how we’d describe madame ur y sus hombres aka Azzul Monraz.

James Hinton aka The Range’s music is just simple and it flows – there is one beat throughout with layering all through and vocals that are almost irrelevant. But that doesn’t really influence the beauty of the track much because they are barely there; somewhere they give the track a touch it needs to add to the improvisation.

While working at OML, Divya Naik came across one of Middle East's best kept musical secrets - الألف Alif

Alif’s sound is unlike what you usually hear from the Middle-Eastern artist landscape. These days, while most bands from across the region are trying to appeal to a global audience by incorporating a lot of Western rhythms and sounds, Alif has managed to tread the fine line between reviving old traditional sounds, seamlessly tying in modern, electronic instrumentation as well.

She's been mesmerized for over a year by what this band has to offer. And now it's your turn. Read and discover more about Alif on Un-herd by going here: http://bit.ly/2mmZTE9

A Journey In Music Discovery

It all started over a decade ago, to be truthful. But technically speaking, it was not until four years ago that a music journalist and a musician got together and started mulling over the idea of music discovery, that the seeds of this blog were sown.

They were both tired of ‘suggestions’ forced down their throat by algorithms and wanted to do something that would allow people to break from the clutter. They missed the days when people would deliberately take efforts to find new artists and actually build their music tastes.

And thus was born ‘Un-herd- a blog created out of the pure desire to share their own personal discoveries and enable people to listen to lesser known yet fantastic artists.
