The many blessings that God has brought into my life are a direct result of what I have walk-through suffered and over come. These light and temporary afflictions have allowed me to encourage others that there is a better way. The mantels of greatness that God will bring to our lives must be placed upon steady shoulders. Remember today all you are walking through is preparing you for a greater weight of glory.

Tonight.
Let go and let God. I have heard that phase many times in recovery. It doesn’t say just let go of some things. But everything. ‘Come to me and I will give you rest—all of you who work so hard beneath a heavy yoke. Wear my yoke—for it fits perfectly—and let me teach you; for I am gentle and humble, and you shall find rest for your souls.’

Waiting is hard. Having faith harder. God waits he has faith in us. So I choose to believe.

The absolute hardest part is staying in the battle. Showing up and not shutting down. Believing no matter how hard it is God is for you and he is for those you love. And mercy and grace win.

So here’s the thing. I go hard and strong most days. I’m a three on the Enneagram. No surprise to those that know me. But today I woke up pretty emotionally exhausted. Like really tired. But at 58 I’m finally learning to listen...to me. So I drove to Denver on a beautiful sunny day to have lunch outside at a darling cafe WITH my only son Sam Maltby. Sam is working harder then me each day to become a really good doctor. He is busy he is stretched he is immersed in topics to hard to understand. But he took time to just be...with me. Time. To. Be. How do children bless a mother’s heart? This.

Her writing is fluid compelling and beams of truth. Mackenzie Maltby I so see you and you are beautiful.

Because I suppose life is less about the fear of tapping out and more about loving the one who will raise a flag and call time outs every once in awhile. And there, forehead to forehead patches up the wounds and reminds you who you are.

The older I get, the more I see life can erode the bones and temper the heart. It is here I understand that the world isn’t this stark black and white.
_
Less backhands and more hands outreached.
_
Less posturing and more bending.
_
Less anger and more mercy.
_
More time-outs. Where the boxing bell rings and you limp to your corner – bloody and defeated. Where someone who isn’t you but knows you is spraying cold water on your forlorn face, looking in your eyes and gives you mercy when your body aches for rest.
_
Because I suppose life is less about the fear of tapping out and more about loving the one who will raise a flag and call time outs every once in awhile. And there, forehead to forehead patches up the wounds and reminds you who you are.
_
Get back in the ring, the crowd doesn’t matter. Stay focused. Winning or losing. I’m here.
_
Because… the one treating the wounds later is the one who has the most say.
_
Don’t forget that.

When Jesus told a woman who lived a life of sin "Your sins are forgiven...Go in peace."
The literal translation says..."Not only do I forgive you but I give you My peace...where nothing is missing and nothing is broken..."

Stick to your proper work and forget what everyone else is doing or saying. Perhaps you’re like me as this is a growing season reminding me to keep my aim steady. Reminds me of the heroic tale of Odysseus who is warned by the goddess Circe to be aware of the “Sirens” on his treacherous journey home.

Sirens are beautiful but deadly.

They sit beside the ocean, combing their long golden hair and singing to passing sailors. But anyone who hears their song is bewitched by their sweetness are drawn to that island like iron to a magnet. And their ship smashes upon rocks as sharp as spears. They are the sexiest of distractions on the way home.
Odysseus knows he must pass through. He orders his sailors to tie him firmly to the ship’s mast. When he is firmly tied, and his men have the beeswax in their ears, they row their ship alongside the island.

The Sirens cry out - “Odysseus, we’ll teach you wisdom, We’ll give you love, sweeter than honey.
The songs we sing, soothe away sorrow,
And in our arms, you will be happy.
Odysseus, bravest of heroes,
The songs we sing, will bring you peace.”

When he hears the words and the music, the song enchants Odysseus’ heart. He longs to plunge into the waves and to swim to the island. He wants to embrace the Sirens.

He strains against the bonds which hold him to the ship’s mast. He strains so hard that the bonds cut deeply into the flesh of his back and arms.

The ship speeds forward and soon the song of the Sirens is an echo of an echo. Only then do the crew members stop rowing and unplug their ears.

By heeding the advice of the goddess Circe, Odysseus has avoided a catastrophe.
Stick to your proper work. Put wax in your ears and strap yourself to the mast if you must. It is the only way. Mackenzie Maltby

Every time you refuse to forgive or fail to overlook a weakness in another, your heart not only hardens toward them, it hardens toward God. You may still think you are open to God, but the Scriptures are clear: "The one who does not love his brother whom he has seen, cannot love God whom he has not seen" (1 John 4:20). You may not like what someone has done, but you do not have an option to stop loving them.

BEWARE OF THE STRONGHOLD OF COLD LOVE
Is your love growing softer, brighter and more visible? Or is it becoming more discriminating, more calculating, less vulnerable and less available? This is a very important issue, for your Christianity is only as real as your love. A measurable decrease in your ability to love is evidence that a stronghold of cold love is developing within you.

Jesus warned of our era. He said, "Many will fall away and will betray one another and hate one another. Many false prophets will arise and will mislead many. Because lawlessness is increased, most people's love will grow cold" (Matt. 24:10-12). So let us honestly ask the Lord to examine us: Is our love hot or cold? Another's thoughtlessness may have wounded us deeply, but instead of forgiving the wound or going to them and discussing it according to Matthew 18, we go to others with our complaint. The wound then begins to germinate into a root of bitterness, and many are being defiled (Heb. 12:15). What is growing in us is not love but bitterness, which is unfulfilled revenge.

Again, Jesus warned that "stumbling blocks [would] come" (Matt. 18:7). There will be times when even good people have bad days; there will never be a time when "stumbling blocks" cease to be found upon your path. Remember also, people do not stumble over boulders but over stones -- little things. When you have stumbled over something, you've stopped walking.

Have you stumbled over someone's weakness or sin lately? Have you gotten back up and continued loving as you did before, or has that fall caused you to withdraw from walking in love? To preserve the quality of your love, you must forgive those who have caused you to stumble. Depending on the issue itself, it may be that you legitimately cannot trust them, but you do not have a reason to stop loving.

What do I mean by love? First, I do not merely mean "tough love." I mean gentle, affectionate, sensitive, open, persistent love. God will be tough when He needs to be, and we will be firm when He tells us to be, but beneath our firmness must be an underground river of love waiting to spring into action. When I have love for someone, I have predetermined that I am going to stand with them, regardless of what they are going through. I am committed.

We each need people who love us, who are committed to us in spite of our imperfections. The fullness of Christ will not come without Christians standing with each other in love. We are not talking about salvation but growing in salvation until we care for each other, even as Christ has committed Himself to us.

The goal of pulling down the stronghold of cold love is to see our hearts restored to the heart of Christ. You will be challenged in this, but if you persist, you will discover the height and depth and breadth of Christ's love. You will become "a body filled and flooded with God Himself" (Eph. 3:19 Amp).
