Dr. Robert Pearl’s latest book, ChatGPT, MD, is out on April 9th, with all profits going to Doctors Without Borders. Dr. Pearl will also make an additional donation for any book purchased on the book’s release date (April 9th).

Realizing that information would be obsolete with the typical time to write and publish a book, Dr. Pearl trained ChatGPT 4 with 1.2-million words and co-wrote the book with ChatGPT.

In this remarkable book, together they explore how generative-AI will shape the future of healthcare.

In this interview Dr. Pearl shares how using generative-AI will allow a more participatory doctor-patient relationship to thrive.

ChatGPT and other similar generative-AI systems, which learn from data gathered worldwide and have the ability to place higher priority on sources like medical journals, will provide feedback that is more personalized to your situation than a search engine.

Dr. Pearl is a professor at Stanford University University School of Medicine and Stanford Graduate School of Business, author of 3 books, and former CEO within the Kaiser Permanente Group.

Erik Anderson, Patient Care Executive at Adventist Health Castle, says from the moment he joined the organization he knew it felt different. He said he felt the sense of Aloha.

Treating patients and employees like Ohana - or family - is in their DNA. Erik told us that like with any family, there needs to be trust, transparency, and sometimes even tough love for accountability, which is a two-way street.

The team at Adventist Health Castle listens to the community and deeply values that feedback when choosing how to best serve their patients and teams. Their holistic approach includes community-centered events like Christmas tree lightings, speaking to students, and other ways that encourage the community to become a partner in their healthcare.

Their commitment to clinical excellence combined with their “Love Matters” campaign lead them to a Baldrige Award win in 2017.

Jennifer Stephens, DO, MBA, FACP & Dr. Beth Careyva of Lehigh Valley Physician Group and Lehigh Valley Health Network share how adding a welcome video for patients and expanding their remote workforce allowed them to transform care within their organization in a patient-centric, efficient way.

Through their patient-partnership model, a remote member of the healthcare practice reaches out to patients prior to the first visit, allowing staff to address transportation or other barriers, handle health history, and also initiate care more immediately if required. Patients also receive a welcome video so they know what to expect during their upcoming visit.

Through this approach, Lehigh Valley Health Network has been able to reach some remarkable achievements. Two of which are reducing no-show rates from 8% to 2%, and operating with 75% of the staff they would need if they performed all tasks in-office! The ripple effect allows providers to spend more quality time with their patients.

In this awesome conversation with David B. Nash, MD, MBA, the Father of Population Health, he shares his experience as a patient during his recent spinal-fusion surgery, tells us about his book, How Covid Crashed the System (system failure was a huge part of it!), and talks to us about how to move forward in an inclusive way.

Dr. Nash said “You can’t have value without equity,” and said they coined the term “No outcome, no income,” more than a decade ago. He is a trailblazer who is passionate about the health of the community, and it was enlightening to hear his perspective on how to build a better system.

Dr. David B. Nash, is Founding Dean Emeritus, Grandon Professor of Health Policy at Jefferson College of Population Health & Author of How Covid Crashed the System.
