The wealthy seem oddly enthusiastic about uploading their minds to computers.

Hey, guess what's the latest in the billionaire's quest for eternal youth? A whopping 41% of America's rich folks are keen on downloading their brains into computers, aiming for a digital forever-life!

While we've all heard tales of the wealthy's wild rides, from blood-swaps for youth to potential head-freezings, this new digital immortality twist is something else. It's like Zuckerberg's metaverse dreams just found their biggest fans.

But here's a funny tidbit: only 19% of average Joes are up for this mind-upload journey. And if you thought that's wild, the same percentage of these loaded tech-lovers are also open to gene-editing their future kids. Talk about a futuristic elite club!

As health and wellness become pricier luxuries, it's clear the well-off are ready to gamble on edgy, wallet-emptying solutions.

So, get this, Tom Cruise, our beloved "Mission: Impossible" superstar, is apparently on team anti-AI! According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cruise popped into a Zoom chat last month between the Screen Actors Guild (SAG-AFTRA) and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP).

The hot topic? The increasing use of AI in showbiz. The exact words from Cruise's lips remain a mystery, but clues indicate he's voicing support for the union's concerns about AI. The guild usually invites actors to the negotiation table when they have something beneficial to say.

And Cruise, in his own unique style, came to bat not just for actors, but also stunt performers. Interesting, right? But let's not forget that this guy knows a thing or two about AI – remember when he was creepily deepfaked on TikTok a while back? Plus, his recent "Mission: Impossible" flick spins a tale of a terrifying future ruled by AI.

So, it seems like Cruise, even though he's usually quite the media recluse, might have a bone to pick with AI's growing presence in Tinseltown.

Brace yourselves, movie buffs, for a plot twist straight out of a sci-fi flick! Researchers have now used deepfakes, AI's latest magic trick, to convince study participants they've seen non-existent movie remakes.

Imagine being convinced that Will Smith took on Neo's role in a reboot of "The Matrix," and even ranking this fictional movie above the original! But don't start doubting your memory just yet. In their cool new study published in PLOS One, the researchers clarified that deepfakes were just as effective as simple text descriptions in creating these false memories.

So, deepfakes alone don't have any superpower to distort your memories. Gillian Murphy, our lead investigator and misinformation guru at University College Cork in Ireland, urges us not to overreact to these technologies before fully understanding their potential harm.

In the experiment, a star-studded cast of 436 participants were shown deepfaked videos featuring unlikely Hollywood switch-ups, like Charlize Theron swooping in as Captain Marvel. And boy, were they convinced! About 49% fell for the deepfakes, with 41% insisting the fictional "Captain Marvel" remake was top-tier.However, text descriptions were just as persuasive, meaning deepfakes don't have a unique claim on twisting reality.

The real trick to keeping our memories safe? Stay tech-savvy and be able to spot deepfakes when we see them. But let's not forget, as AI gets smarter, so must we to avoid a potential memory mash-up!
