The Lost Boys of Lake Ontario
On March 17, 1995, six teenage boys went missing after leaving a party and heading to Lake Ontario for a night of “goofing around.”

It’s been 29 years since six teenage boys went missing after a night of partying in Pickering.

On the late evening of March 17, 1995, after a spring break party which included copious amounts of alcohol, six teenage boys from Pickering Ontario, left the party. That was the last time they were ever seen. Witnesses and evidence suggest the boys went down to the beach looking for adventure. Once there, they may have stolen a four-meter imitation Boston Whaler motorboat and a three-wheeled paddle boat from separate marinas on Frenchman’s Bay. Then, it is believed, they headed out for a joyride on the cold, icy waters of the lake without life jackets. Before they left at around 12:50 a.m. on Friday, the boys told a friend they were going to “goof around” on a boat. The boys were all students and friends at a local high school. They included: Jay Boyle, Michael Cummins, Daniel Higgins and Chad Smith, Robbie Rumboldt and Jamie Lefebvre.

The only “evidence” of the boys fate included: at 1:48 a.m. a surveillance camera caught three of the boys, Michael, Jamie and Robbie, entering East Shore Marina; somewhere between 2:30 and 3 a.m. some local residents heard the sound of a motor boat out on the lake; and, finally, the next morning, two boats were reported stolen from two marinas.

The police believe the boats capsized and hypothermia gripped the boys within minutes. The boys were first reported missing by worried girlfriends on Friday. The police did not treat their concerns seriously until Saturday afternoon, when they connected the boys to the missing boats.

By 2 p.m. Saturday – 36 hours after the boys were last seen – a massive search was underway. Durham police were joined by the Toronto police marine unit, theCoast Guard, Hercules C-130 aircraft and a helicopter from the air-sea rescue unit at Canadian Forces Base Trenton. They found nothing. Thousands of volunteers from across southern Ontario then joined the hunt. But no bodies. No boats. No pieces of clothing. The only item found on the lake was a gas can belonging to the Boston Whaler.

What happened to the boys? Why was no personal evidence of their fate ever found? Was there some sort of pact between the boys? Was there foul play? Did the boys actually die or was there an elaborate plot to just disappear? These questions and many more have never been answered in the last 29 years.

An what of the location? The East Shore Marina is adjacent to the Pickering Nuclear Facility. To get into Lake Ontario from Frenchman’s Bay, the boys would have to literally pass by the plant.

The boys are still considered missing, and the case remains unsolved

Disappearance of Arianna Fitts:Arianna Fitts (2-years-old) and her mother Nicole Fitts (32-years-old) were reported miss...

Disappearance of Arianna Fitts:

Arianna Fitts (2-years-old) and her mother Nicole Fitts (32-years-old) were reported missing on April 5, 2016, in San Francisco, California. However, Nicole Fitts was last seen on April 1, 2016 and Arianna had not been seen since mid-February 2016. Arianna Fitts is still missing, while her mother's body was discovered buried in McLaren Park on April 8.

Disappearance & Murder:

On April 1, 2016, 32 year old Nicole Fitts went missing from San Francisco, CA. At the time, Nicole was living in the Mission and working at a Best Buy on Harrison Street. On the day she went missing she worked her shift, then went to a mall with a friend, stopped at a 7-11 to take cash out of an atm, and picked up a pizza at Pizza Hut. After going home she settled in for a movie when she received a call around 9:00pm. She told her room mate that this call was from “the babysitter” who wanted to meet. Nicole was in the process of getting her daughter, 2 year old Arianna Fitts, back from a “babysitter” who had watched her while she worked long hours. This was about to change and Nicole had told the sitter that she wouldn’t need to watch Arianna after April 2nd. Nicole left her home to meet this person at BJ’s Restaurant, dressed in her blue Best Buy shirt, boarded a Muni bus and never returned.

At 1:13 am a Facebook post coming from Nicole Fitts’ account was posted, it read “Spending time with my 3 year old need this brake.” The word brake was spelled incorrectly. Nicole’s family have doubts about Nicole writing this post because her daughter was 2 years old at the time and because the word “brake” was misspelled. Nicole was fastidious about spelling and grammar.
Nicole’s roommate also received a strange text message from her during the night she went missing. This message said that she was going to Fresno with a friend named Sean. Neither her roommate or her family knew of a friend Nicole had named Sean nor did she have a car.

Nicole was a hard worker who often took extra shifts at Best Buy but on April 2nd & April 3rd she didn’t show up to work. Nicole’s family came to San Francisco and reported her missing to police. While investigating police also realized that Nicole’s daughter, Arianna Fitts had not been seen by anyone in the family since February 2016. Arianna had been staying with a babysitter while Nicole worked and found a place for them both to live. Nicole had been trying for 6 weeks to get her daughter back from the people who she trusted to watch her child. For weeks they wouldn’t let Nicole see her daughter and she was desperate to get her back. The names of these people according to the SF Weekly and the Charley Project are Siolo Hearne, Helena Martin and Devin Martin. On the day Nicole went missing she had planned to move her daughter in with her in the Mission. In light of this, police realized both Nicole and Arianna were missing.

Then on April 8th, 2016, Nicole’s body was found murdered in McLaren Park in San Francisco. Her body had been put in a hole and covered with a piece of plywood that police think the murderer brought with them. This plywood had a unique painting on it. Arianna Fitts was not found with her and is considered still missing.

The San Francisco Police Department are offering a $100,000 reward for information about Nicole Fitts’ murder and for information about her missing daughter Arianna Fitts. There is also a $10,000 reward put forth by Best Buy.

When she went missing Arianna Fitts was 2 years old. According to the Charley Project she is african-american, was born on September 6, 2013, was 2 feet tall and 45 pounds. She had black hair and brown eyes. She would now be 10 years old, and eleven in September of this year.

If you have any information on Arianna or Nicole Fitts please contact the San Francisco Police Department at 415-553-0123 or the FBI at 415-553-7400

‘Last Stop Larrimah’ Is The Australian True Crime Story We Can’t Stop Talking About

Netflix’s true crime documentary has put an unsuspecting Australian town on the map.

UNSOLVED MYSTERY:
When a Man and his dog vanishes in a town of 11

The creepy, remote town where EVERY resident became a suspect when ‘neighbour from hell’ mysteriously vanished

What happened to Paddy Moriarty?

The disappearance of Patrick “Paddy” Moriarty, who was last seen on December 16, 2017. His last known whereabouts was the Pink Panther pub, where he and his dog Kellie were regulars.

How Did Paddy Moriarty Go Missing?

Paddy, a 70-year-old smiley moustachioed fellow, disappeared from the red dusty no-horse town of Larrimah in the Northern Territory on 16 December 2017. That day he'd been drinking at the Pink Panther hotel before heading home for dinner. Police say his house was in order, the date crossed off the calendar, his bed made and his dinner on the table ready to be heated up. His signature hat, which he was never without, was on the table, alongside his keycard and his reading glasses. His kelpie cross Kellie is also missing.

Feuds with neighbours:

It came out in 2022 at Paddy's inquest that he and his neighbours had a long history of disagreements, with allegations of poisoned plants, a stolen umbrella and a kangaroo carcass being dragged onto one of their properties.

Potential suspects:

Topping the list of potential suspects now – at least going by the questioning in a recent inquest involving the town’s residents – are a former Pink Panther bartender, who was one of the last people to see the missing man, and a gardener, with whom Moriarty had fought just days before his disappearance. Detectives have also questioned the owner of a roadside teahouse, leading to morbid jokes about the filling in her meat pies.

But with no clear evidence or even a motive for Moriarty’s disappearance, every one of Larrimah’s 11 residents is in one way or another part of the investigation – with each pointing a finger at a neighbour or two, while denying their own involvement in what has become the latest mystery to capture Australia’s imagination.

The search for paddy:

Fearing that Paddy had a medical emergency while out for a walk, his friends began searching the surrounding area and roads for him, but saw no sign of either the missing man or his dog anywhere.

The Inquest:

A coronial inquest has found that Paddy Moriarty, who went missing from the tiny Northern Territory town of Larrimah in 2017, is dead and a feud with his nearest neighbours is likely to be the key to solving the case.

Northern Territory Police have announced a $250,000 reward for information in relation to missing person Patrick 'Paddy' Moriarty.

To this day, Paddy’s whereabouts remain a mystery.

MISSING IN KANSAS: Jackie Hay cold case

It’s been decades since Jackie Hay was last seen alive.

She was playing with kids on the afternoon of Sept. 12, 1981, near her home at Colfax and Golf Park. When an older brother went to bring Jackie back inside, he could not find her. Jackie, 5, had vanished.

Her father, Olen Hay, said Jackie was a bright girl who started kindergarten the week before.

“She sounded like an adult on the phone. Oh, she was just like grown up and outgoing. Just an awesome kid,” he said.

SEARCH FOR JACKIE:

Even to this day, Olen remembers it all vividly. Their family called police for help, but it took hours before the department started an official search, Olen said.

Investigators believe Jackie was likely abducted, and Olen’s fear is that with so much time that passed, his daughter could be anywhere.

In 1981, hundreds of people helped look for the girl, including officers, firefighters, the Kansas National Guard, horseback riders and neighbors. They looked in a heavily wooded area near the family’s residence, abandoned homes and other possibilities.

“They went everywhere,” Olen said. “Little creeks and timber. Yes. there's a wooded area over there. I mean if there was something there, I'm sure they would have found it.”

The week she went missing, Topeka Police Det. Tom Lemon tells the Topeka Capital-Journal they had dozens of tips and calls,

“It’s getting frustrating,” he said in the September 1981 news report. ”We’re getting a lot of calls, but we don’t have any leads. It’s kind of like looking for a needle in a haystack.”

Olen said he was touched by how everyone responded to helping the family, including her mom, dad and four siblings.

Oh. Everybody brought food and…” Olen said, as he started to get choked up during our recent interview with him.

Nothing turned up. The searches were called off about two weeks after Jackie disappeared

A POSSIBLE SUSPECT:

There were many eyewitness accounts on what happened that day. In addition to interviewing kids who were playing with Jackie, one tip came from a water department employee. The worker was responding to a service call in the area. He spoke to a man who flagged him down to ask a question. According to Capital Area Crime Stoppers, the worker said he had seen the man with a little girl matching the description of Jackie.

Other witnesses saw a gray van down the street, which may have been involved in the abduction.

That day, police brought in a potential suspect for questioning about the case. He reportedly was questioned for a few hours and was released. The man lived in the neighborhood, according to an article in the Capital-Journal.

INVESTIGATING MORE CLUES

Ret. Maj. Jerry Young was one of the first officers on scene. He went through the neighborhood to talk to people about the missing girl.

A few years after the abduction, he said the Topeka Police Department got a tip about her body being in a field in an area surrounding Topeka. Police brought out search dogs to look for Jackie’s remains, but they could not find anything, he said during an episode of Capitol Cold Cases – a program with KTWU and Capital Area Crime Stoppers.

Back in 2011, a tipster called Crime Stoppers about the cold case abduction. Crime Stoppers tried to get in touch with the tipster again, hoping to figure out what happened to the girl.

As time moves on, there’s a lack of hope for the family.

Jackie's mom, Judith, passed away in February 2007. At her grave site, she shares a headstone with Jackie.

If alive, Jackie would be in her 40's, having celebrated her birthday on Feb. 17.

Olen believes his daughter was killed. He hopes new information will come forward, so his family can have closure.

“Is there something that you would like to say to that person? If someone knows that information, or even a person who took her?,” KAKE News Anchor Annette Lawless asked Olen.

“I believe in karma,” he responded. “Karma will take care of it.”

Sheila Fox:

On August 18, 1944, six-year-old Sheila Fox disappeared from Farnworth, Lancashire, after failing to return home from school
Scouts, air defense observers, special police officers and local residents took part in a massive search for her, but to no avail
Her disappearance became known as one of the "most puzzling mysteries" of World War II

But almost 60 years later, in 2001, police dug up a garden in Greater Manchester
An elderly man told police that when his 13-year-old son went missing, a neighbor saw him digging a large hole in the garden of a house near Sheila's parents' home in the middle of the night

In 1944, suspect Richard Ryan (later convicted of indecent assault) lived in this house
However, the excavation of the garden was unsuccessful and no body was found

The youngest of five children known as the “girl in the green mac”, Sheila was last seen on the handlebars of a bike ridden by a man before she disappeared. Tragically, her parents died without ever knowing what happened to their daughter and spent their lives waiting for her to come home, leaving the door unlocked in case she did just that.

Sheila still remains missing

03/09/2023

The mysterious disappearance of Adam Herrman continues to perplex investigators, even after several decades have passed since he was last witnessed. Originally named Irvin Sylvester Groeninger, III, Adam went missing on April 4, 1999 from his family's residence located at Pine Ridge Estates in Towanda, Kan. Coexisting with his adoptive parents and siblings, his family asserted that he had a tendency to run away, thus neglecting to report his absence to the authorities. In 2008, a tip led investigators to look into his disappearance.

Suspected Abuse

According to former Butler County Sheriff Kelly Herzet, there were previous suspicions of abuse within Adam's family.

In November 1996, Adam was removed from his home as Derby Police investigated allegations of abuse. The child had visible bruises and abrasions. He was temporarily placed in the Wichita Children's Home before being returned home. Adam's parents, Doug and Valerie Herrman, were soon cleared of any wrongdoing.

On January 9, 1998, Derby Police initiated an investigation into possible child abuse of Adam, following a report from Pleasantview Elementary. The police department interviewed educators, one of whom expressed doubts about intentional harm being inflicted upon Adam. The educator mentioned that if there were any issues, Adam would likely speak up.

The following month, the family relocated from Derby to Towanda. While Adam's siblings attended public school, he was homeschooled. The Kansas Department of Education confirmed that Valerie registered a non-accredited private school in Derby on January 26, 1998.The state does not keep records on enrollment or visit the homeschool.

Valerie and Doug Herrman have never faced criminal charges in relation to any harm caused to Adam, although they have been considered as suspects in his disappearance. They were, however, charged for misusing state funds on behalf of their son. Doug was sentenced to nine months in prison, while Valerie received a seven-month sentence for collecting more than $15,000 in state aid checks. Later on, Doug and Valerie relocated to Grove, Okla. Unfortunately, Doug passed away on July 14, 2016.

Despite widespread beliefs that Adam may no longer be alive, Herzet remains determined to bring him home. In 2015, the sheriff's office took to Facebook to seek tips regarding this unsolved case, and they continue to receive tips to this day.

Lucy Letby sentenced to whole life in prison for murdering babies at hospital neonatal unit

The 33-year-old was convicted on Friday of the murder of seven babies and the attempted murder of six more.

Lucy Letby, the nurse who murdered babies on the neonatal unit where she worked, will die in prison after being handed a whole life order.

The 33-year-old was convicted on Friday of the murder of seven babies and the attempted murder of six more during her shifts at the Countess of Chester Hospital between 2015 and 2016.

She is now deemed to be the most prolific baby killer in modern history. Prosecutors said Letby was a 'calculated opportunist' who used the vulnerabilities of premature and sick infants to camouflage her acts.

In 2015 and 2016, there was a significant rise in the numbers of babies who suffered serious and unexpected collapses in the neonatal unit at the Countess of Chester Hospital.

Letby was the only member of the nursing and clinical staff who was on duty each time the collapses happened, which the Crown argued were not natural events.

She used various ways to harm the babies including injecting air into the bloodstream, injecting air into the stomach, overfeeding with milk, physical assaults and poisoning with insulin.

Some of the children were subjected to repeated attempts to kill them by the 'cold, cruel and relentless nurse.

She denied the offences but was convicted following a ten-month trial at Manchester Crown Court.

Letby refused to attend court when the final verdicts were delivered on Friday and has indicated she does not want to take any part in the sentencing hearing.

The judge, Mr Justice Goss, sentenced her to life in prison today (Monday) at Manchester Crown Court.
