Original post -

We are aware of a number of incidents in the Mangotsfield, Fishponds and Hillfields areas in which people have been approached at home in the early hours of the morning and asked for money.

We recognise and fully appreciate the concern and distress this has caused many in our communities and neighbourhood officers are working to identify the people responsible.

As part of this work, we would urge anyone who is approached to immediately call 999 and report it to us, giving the call handler the reference number 5225129994. Call 101 if you have any other information you think could help.

We're aware that a child was approached by a man on a motorbike in Staple Hill while on their way home from school at about 4pm on Tuesday 1 April.
He was wearing black and red motorcycle gear with a black helmet with white stripes and riding a black and red motorbike with white writing on it.
The man twice asked the child if they would like to be walked home, once as they left school and again in Teewell Hill. He went away after being told no the second time.
The Year Six primary school pupil sensibly rang their family immediately.
The school sent a message to parents and carers after becoming aware of the incident.
We're patrolling the area to offer reassurance, and are in touch with the family.
If you have any information, dashcam or other footage which could help our enquiries please call 101 and give the reference 5225095559.
Neighbourhood Sergeant Andrew Macmillan said: "This young person did the right thing by telling someone straight away. If something doesn't feel right, we'd always recommend getting to the nearest busy place - such as a shop - and calling a family member or ringing 999 if you feel unsafe."
PS Macmillan added: "While we're in touch with the child's family, we don't yet have the details of what happened. I'd ask this man to come forward and explain his actions.
"If anyone has concerns for the welfare of a child it's best to call 101 rather than approaching them, or ring 999 if they're at immediate risk of harm."

Yep, we said it. When 41% of people who menstruate are unable to afford period products, someone has to.

That’s why, from today, we’re providing access to free pads and tampons in Aldi toilets*. No code words. Just making sure period products are available to the people who need them.

Oh, and we’re donating 1M period products to UK charity Bloody Good Period, too.

*Free period products available in all stores by the end of May 2025.

We had a theft from the park yesterday (Sunday 26th Jan), with two individuals arriving with hi-viz jackets, chain saw, wheelbarrow and van to help themselves to some of the wood that is earmarked for paths in the wilderness area. We estimate that over £300 worth of timber was stolen. They left after being approached by a park user. This crime has been reported to the police (Crime Ref No 5225022778) so if anyone has any further information please do let us or the police know.
