Return of ZEE Channels on Free dish in june

Prasar Bharti, India’s public broadcaster which operates DD Free Dish satellite TV service, has given five slots on the DTH platform to major private sector broadcasters such as Star India, Sony Pictures Networks, TV18 Broadcast and Zee Entertainment Enterprises.

Two slots have been allocated to Zee Entertainment Enterprises, while one each has been allocated to the other three.

The exact method by which these five slots have been allocated is not clear.

These were, at one time, the most watched channels on DD Free Dish — the government’s free satellite TV service targeting the Hindi speaking market. However, they were withdrawn a year ago after the regulator asked these private broadcasters to either give these channels free of charge to all DTH customers, or stop giving it free of charge to DD Free Dish.

hese channels were converted to ‘pay’ in the expectation that consumers will prefer to buy bouquets or channels packs such as the Zee Family Pack, Star Value Pack and Sony Happy India Pack, instead of buying channels one by one.

Interestingly, even though these channels have been allocated slots on DD Free Dish, they are still being sold as pay channels on other platforms such as Dish TV and Sun Direct.

Today i am discussing about ala-carte packs which you know is popular among DTH and cable TV providers

what is ala- carte?

According to wikipedia, the term ala-carte is derived from french language which means pick-and-pay refers to a pricing model for pay television services in which customers subscribe to individual television channels.

which means you are paying extra for channels you view the most and you are not thinking about it

Key disadvantages of ala-carte system is as follows

1.You end up paying more which burns a hole in your pocket including NCF+GST
NCF-Network connection fee

2.Price per channel will go up in coming days.

3.The survivor channels will have less money

4.The broadcaster quality of content will go down



Well if we raise our voice then we can resolve this problems otherwise in this current scenario it's very difficult.

Today I am going to introduce to a new DTH issue.Which is called DTH interoperability

What Exactly Is Set-Top Box Interoperability?

To explain in simple words as you know there are many DTH operators in India.They offer their services to consumers in the form of set top boxes.
These set top boxes only work for a particular DTH operator.

For example you have Tata Sky set top box with subscription.Under certain circumstances you want to change it because of various reasons such as cost issues,service issues to other Dth operator such as Sun Direct

This process of Changing one Dth service to another without losing your former set-top box in this case Tata sky is called DTH interoperability

How will it help consumers?

Main reason is the flexibility.If your DTH operator is charging more to watch channels then you can subscribe to a cheaper DTH service

You may think it as an advantage but here come the catch.
When you change to other DTh platform .The service may charge you to buy another set top box,antenna and so on

In this case your tata sky set top box will go to trash
This is a disadvantage when you subscribe to other DTH service.

The Effect on DTH Operators

For the DTH operators, this would mean a totally different thing.DTH services might offer a good service without the trouble for changing old set top box to new set top box and it will be helpful for consumers and there will be lots of material cost and time saved

As per the Trai notification on this matter, the interoperability of Set-Top Boxes is currently under testing, and Trai is yet to finalise a method that it would use to deploy these interoperable STBs. But, as per the sector regulator’s words, the subscribers would be able to find interoperable STBs next year.

Last week four channels were made available for free during the lockdown

Guess what are the channels as you know
the answer is

Sony Pal,Star Utsav,Zee Anmol,Colors Rishtey
which were on dd free dish platform until 2018.My question is why these channels were not made free to dd free dish users
These companies are targeting money

Firstly they generate TRP's in free dish platform.

Secondly they attract many viewers to watch previously broadcasted episodes which were a part of main parent channel

Thirdly they want these free dish platform viewers into paid consumers such as (Dish TV,Tata Sky etc.)

So Now what some idiot consumers get paid dth platforms
Now their TRP also goes down
Are u understanding ?Why they are free
Yes to gain the TRP's from you foolish people

I know that many of you are watching TV channels on DTH. Superior and seamless picture clarity .No doubt it is very good and better than cable television.
From the past one year TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) made it clear by telling consumers that it would lower the cable TV and DTH channels priced very low and choosing the TV channels which you view the most. As you and I think it was freedom to choose our channels according to our own. But things have changed my dear. Generally we as a middle class people don’t tend to watch many channels provided by the service provider. I am watching DD Free dish since my childhood days .
When channels like ZEE Anmol ,Rishtey, Star Utsav came into free dish they gained many viewers .It was January 2019 all private broadcasters thought of leaving free dish platform .I was shocked why on earth would they do that and they all left DD Free Dish
My family thought of moving to SUN DIRECT(South India’s leading DTH service provider as of now).But the problem was that we had to pay ₹130+GST basically referred as NCF(Network connection fee) and it was scrapped by my father thinking why would anyone pay that amount to avail free channels and continued with DD Free Dish.
Last week I went to my relatives house they were paying ₹286 for basically a Telugu south pack .They were generally watching more than 10 channels. I realised they are paying more than they are viewing I ensured that they would pay less than what they are viewing .I went to SUN DIRECT website ensuring they would give channel choice selection. Alas! They displayed their own channel bouquets. I was even more shocked they are enforcing customers by making choose their company bouquets and not of customer’s channel choice this is very much unfair.
I want you to support this page till it reaches Government of India and TRAI authorities
Please sign this petition and support middle class people and rural India viewers who are paying more to the channels than what they see. So that they can choose their own channels without pressure from the DTH broadcasters and their expensive pricing
We want rules such as:-
1) Scrap the NCF as we are already paying 18% GST.
2) Individual channel pricing should be in such a way that collective price of individual channels should be equal to bouquet price for that broadcaster, this will give us more freedom of choice and makes its economically feasible.
3) In present time Most of the TV's are flat LED screens, even in rural areas its becoming hard to find those boxy TFT TV's. Then why is there no scrapping of SD quality channels. Only HD quality channels should be provided at affordable price. It doesn't cost the broadcaster much to provide HD channels over SD channels. SD channels still exists only to extort money from consumer
