📣It is exciting times for us all at the Telford Raiders as official information has been shared of us being drawn as number 7 in the 2025 Betfred Challenge Cup. Please see the below information, carry on sharing and giving us a thumbs us to let us know you will be following the live feeds to find out WHO we will be drawn against. Who is everyone hoping for? 💙💛

Mikey Lewis and Max Jowitt will conduct the draws for the first two rounds of the 2025 Betfred Challenge Cup at the RaisE Business Centre in Goole next Monday evening.

Lewis and Jowitt may now be stars of the Betfred Super League, but both have strong connections to community clubs who will enter the First Round draw.

Lewis, the England and Hull KR half-back who was the 2024 Steve Prescott MBE Man of Steel, started playing with the West Hull community club, who have been regulars in the Challenge Cup over the last two decades.

Jowitt, the Wakefield Trinity full-back who set a new record for Rugby League by scoring exactly 500 points in the club’s triumphant 2024 season in the Betfred Championship, fell in love with the sport as a youngster at Stanley Rangers – the Yorkshire Men’s League club who will return to the Challenge Cup in 2025.

West Hull and Stanley Rangers are two of 34 teams from the community game who will enter the First Round draw, with ties to be played on the weekend of January 11-12 – kicking off the 2025 season.

That will be followed by the Second Round draw when the 12 English teams in the Betfred Championship and the 11 clubs from Betfred League One join the 17 First Round winners to produce 20 ties – the winners of which will be joined by the 12 Betfred Super League big guns in the Third Round draw in January.

The 11 Betfred League One clubs include Goole Vikings, newcomers to the professional ranks in 2025, who will be hosting the draw at the RaisE Business Centre. The Vikings will celebrate the presence of the Challenge Cup in the town ahead of their debut season with a trophy tour around local schools and tournament sponsors Betfred – and are inviting fans who want to have their photo taken with the Cup to come to the RaisE Business Centre between 4-530.

📣The draws will be shown live on BBC iPlayer, the BBC Sport website and App – with coverage starting from 630pm.

Rugby League Outsiders Set of Six: Edinburgh Giants, Huddersfield Giants, NRL Signings, & More!

Welcome to another exciting episode of Rugby League Outsiders Set of Six with your hosts Craig and Karl!

This week, we dive into updates on Edinburgh Giants' bid to join the Wheelchair Super League, new signings for Huddersfield Giants, including Tom Burgess from the NRL, and a roundup of the latest in University Rugby League.

We also discuss the remarkable story of Phil Delamere and his son Alfie, who built a detailed model of the Halliwell Jones Stadium in memory of their granddad.

New rugby league club Bath Bees are looking for expressions of interest from both male and female players for the 2025 season. Details of how to register are below.

CLUB STATEMENT

After ‘soft’ launching Bath Bees as a women’s Rugby League operation last summer, we want to double down on our efforts to run a sustainable women’s Rugby League team in the heart of Bath, giving potential players living in the city an opportunity to play on their doorstep and also surrounding Wiltshire and Somerset areas. We are also hopeful of former and potentially new men’s teams wanting to play Rugby League in the West of England in summer 2025, with this in mind we would like to test the waters to see what the appetite would be for a men’s Rugby League club in Bath, as there is no active club in the area currently. Subject to having sufficient interest for both women’s and men’s the format of fixtures is likely to be a more festival merit league format with potentially some additional friendly fixtures (not commitment to fixtures on a weekly basis, likely to be two festivals a month maximum).

Stalwart of the game in the South, Glenn Tyreman will continue as Director of Rugby. In order to sustain Rugby League in the city in the medium to long term, Glenn would welcome the support of not just potential players but also coaching staff, team managers, sports therapists, marketeers, social media experts, match reporters, kit personnel etc along with many other positions which we may not have fully thought through. Potential partners and sponsors are also key to sustaining and growing a club in the medium to long term. Please get in touch if you feel you or your organisation could support in this area.

At a national level we have just seen one of the most competitive play-off series in Super League, with Wigan Warriors winning all trophies on offer including beating their Australian counterparts and we are fortunate to have just had Samoa in the UK playing a two-match series against England which saw England win the series 2-0. In the Women’s game England have had an international fixture with Wales which has become an annual event which England managed to win comfortably on this occasion.

We are ambitious to grow the Rugby League pathway at grassroots level in and around Bath.

We have launched a couple of Microsoft Forms surveys to help us gauge interest levels for women’s players, men’s players and other personnel such as coaches, team managers etc.

The most common sport to transfer from is Rugby Union but we welcome talent transfer from other sports and also players with no experience. Rugby Union players can combine with their existing commitments as Rugby League is a summer sport so potential to do both.
