No, I don't believe I saved myself. I believe I accepted Jesus' saving of me.
There's a big difference, unless you think the person clinging desperately to the life preserver thrown to them while they drown in the ocean also "saved themselves."
Of all the lines thrown out there against non-Calvinists, the conflation of faith and works is the worst (and the one literally opposed to Scripture).
I cling to Christ in faith for His pulling me out of the depths of my failings. I recognize I will drown without Him and, with eternal gratitude, accept His saving in faith.
Many years ago, I confessed Jesus as Lord and believed on Him for my salvation, and God chose that this assent — which would be absolutely futile without his making it worth something — He decided before time that this faith should be credited to myself (and all others who believe) as the righteousness of Christ.
Our faith is not righteousness on its own, but God merits it to be righteous through Christ.
Calvinists, please drop the "so you saved yourself?" and "so you earned salvation through works?" lines from your vocabulary. You can hold to Calvinism without misrepresenting all non-Calvinists (and Scripture) in this way. 🙃👍
