There is time in every person's life where we realize it’s time to grow up. I held on as long as I could to the child within me. The child believed that everyone was good. The child that believed all you needed in order to fly was wings big enough to hold your own body weight. But today it’s time to say goodbye to that kid and allow myself to be the man I was born to be. I read a piece of an article on Radio Active recently commemorating Wellington Pride 2020 when a truck driver saw a kid dancing to music played on the waterfront outside Te Papa. The kid looked up while holding his parent's hands and smiled with joy. It was a moment that reminded the truck driver of the book Narnia. The kid found a place of acceptance in their parents and a place of belonging. Isn’t that like the thought of Narnia itself - a world where everything makes sense? A world that can only be accessed through childlike eyes. The door to Narnia may change every time but it is up to us adults to create moments for the next generation to belong here on earth.

Last weekend, along with a team of amazing people we put together a dance party called Anthem. What a treat it was to walk in a world of imagination. My friends kept asking me if I was happy and I kept saying, I was happy when one person brought a ticket. But what truly makes me happy is sitting on the hill watching the sunset and listening to 60s or 70s music.

So at what point do you close the door to Narnia? The door to a world that can only be seen with childlike eyes. Well for me that time has come. It’s been fun and my innocence has been spent. The door to another world will always be there. But it’s time to step into my own. My mum asked me recently - do we think it’s time to grow up son?

I answered - Yea ok.
