Office hours – 10a – 5p (pacific standard time)
After-Hours Operator – Monday – Friday - 5p – 10p

**ATTENTION BURLY PEOPLES FROM ACROSS THE LANDS!** BurlyCares is still holding a fundraiser for the amazing burlesque Legend Dee Milo. We are *almost* halfway with raising the money Dee will need to buy the type of hearing aids she needs to hear optimally. For those of you who might know Dee, she is one of most well lived, loved and dearest of legends, with a very rich history. Please help us help the amazing and wonderful Dee Milo!!!

About Dee Milo -

Dee Milo, “The Venus of Dance”, got her start in burlesque in 1949 in New Orleans and became a headliner performing nationally and internationally. She is known for her signature act “Sentimental Journey” where she undresses and then redresses in the routine. During her career Dee Milo toured with the USO; performed in Japan and Mexico; and appeared at the top theaters in Boston, New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Denver.

In 1964 Dee Milo moved to Salt Lake City and at the urging of her family quite burlesque and burned her burlesque memorabilia. However, years later a box was found in the attic that had Dee Milo’s red sequin mermaid gown. This same dress would later be worn on stage when she came out of retirement in 1995 and performed at Miss Exotic World after speaking with Dixie Evans. Since then Dee Milo has performed at Tease-O-Rama, the Burlesque Hall of Fame’s Titans of Tease, and burlesque festivals & events around the country.[1]

Hi BurlyLoves! The BurlyCares Suite is up and going! We are in room 2176, we will be here all weekend. We will have food and beverages throughout the weekend. We will also have over the counter items (like bandaides, Tylenol, electrolytes, etc) as well. **Attention Burly and Variety Show loves from across the lands!**

Those that know and love the amazing burlesque legend Tiffany Carter, know of her recent challenges and losses. It is imperative at this time that Tiffany be able to live in her current residence safely. In order to fulfill this need BurlyCares would like to raise $1500 for Tiffany to be able to afford staying in her current residence. All money raised for Tiffany with this fundraiser will go directly to helping to pay for mortgage for one month and any other small repairs to the home directly related to ensuring her home is safe. BurlyCares celebrates Black History month with our 4 part series!

Part 4 - Burlesque Legend Jean Idelle

Ms. Idelle headlined shows at Chicago’s Rialto Theater from 1950 to 1964 and was one of the first black performers to dance with white dancers in a time where segregation still prevailed. “When I danced the white crowds came in to see the black woman, which was taboo in those days,” Ms. Idelle shared with Red Hots. “After I was finished dancing they forgot all about my race and just appreciated a good performance by an elegant and skillful burlesque dancer. Talent is the greatest equalizer. If you got it, you got it.”

Frequently, women of color were only booked if they performed acts which reinforced racist stereotypes. Jean Idelle, one of the first African-American women to perform in an all-white burlesque troupe, poses for the camera.

How We Began

Found in 2019, BurlyCares was created by neo-burlesque artists Ambrosia Minge, Miranda Glamour, Miz Charlamay, Sheila Starr Siani, Spiderella and burlesque legend Fannie Annie. Together these women saw a need to help the ever growing population of senior performers across the nation and around the world. BurlyCares was created with the vision of helping to close the gap on the needs that so many senior performers face after they are no longer able to make a living performing full time. It is the mission of BurlyCares to improve the quality of life and ease some of the stress so many senior performers face. BurlyCares vows to assist retired performers with referring them to already existing programs that can help them, donate medical equipment and supplies and raise money for emergency needs as needed. BurlyCares also vows to support already existing programs and organizations that include the population of burlesque and variety arts legends.
