SiriusXM Real Jazz host Mark Ruffin will be taking two weeks off starting Monday as he keeps his promise to his old friend Hugh Masekela ZA to visit South Africa. Below is a picture of the two of them from a live event held in Chicago 20 years ago.

Part of the trip includes going on safari with South African legend Jonathan Butler while another part will be finding some of the musicians Seton Hawkins has turned us all onto on his show South African Jazz.

South African Jazz airs Sundays at 7 pm ET/4 PT with the encore Mondays at 5pm ET/2 pm PT, plus two weeks of shows are always on the Sirius XM App

Real Jazz host Andromeda Turre will be in for Mark for two weeks starting Monday.

Pianist Christian Sands and his trio joins the SiriusXM Real Jazz Jam Session today at 3pm Eastern/Noon Pacific with the encore tonight at midnight Eastern/9pm Pacific.

In addition to performing music from his new album "Embracing Dawn" on Mack Avenue Records, Christian plays tracks from pianists important to him including Dr. Billy Taylor and Geri Allen.

Our 39th president was quite the music lover including jazz. In 1978 he gave a big jazz party and Dizzy Gillespie along with Max Roach called him up on stage to sing "Salt Peanuts."

Ron Carter gesture and statement on the death of Russell Malone.

I am currently on a tour that began as The Golden Striker Trio, consisting of Russell Malone, Donald Vega, and Yours Truly. On the 23rd of August Mr. Malone suffered a heart attack upon completion of our performance at Blue Note Tokyo. Donald Vega and I are completing this tour as a duo … in respect and honor of the memory of Mr. Malone … this is the chair Mr. Malone sat in to play and represents his continued presence on the bandstand with us.

Thank you to all for your ongoing prayers and condolences, they are deeply appreciated. I will issue a statement when I can find the words. To the musical community at large, and the individuals contacting me for commentary for articles, Thank you for understanding that I need this time.

Russell Malone (1963-2024) Rest In Peace!

Mark Ruffin honors the late Russell Malone who died today at the age of 60.

An hour of his music airs starting around 4:45 Eastern/1:45 Pacific, with the encore tonight at 1:45 am Eastern/10:45 Pacific following Kenny Garrett from the DC Jazz Festival 2023.

Saturday Christian McBride has an encore of "The Lowdown: Conversation With Christian," featuring duets and comedy from Russell Malone and Christian; two of the funniest men in jazz.

Then Andromeda Turre features music from the great guitarist once an hour from noon to 5 pm Eastern/ 9 am to 2pm Pacific.

What a great musician. May he rest in peace and harmony!
