If you were given the name “Kashimawo” (let us wait and see) because the world did not expect you to survive past infancy what would you do?
If you were thrown into the concrete jungle and had to sell firewood at the tender age of Nine (9) in order to feed yourself and your family, would you survive? Would you rise above life’s obstacles or would you succumb to it? Talk about facing limiting challenges right from an early age!
This was the conundrum MKO Abiola faced growing up; but like a Phoenix from a seemingly hopeless situation, he rose from the ashes to become one of the most prominent statesmen to rise from Africa.
He fought oppression all his days and gave his life to defend the mandate of the people. By the time of his death, he had become a symbol of democracy.
Abiola’s story is one of principle, purpose and demo of wisdom. How a young man who entered into business at the tender age of (9) nine selling firewood to neighbours went on to study accounting for his first degree and emerged with a first class degree and ended up building a fortune worth millions of dollars doing business.
The life and times of Nigeria’s venerable politician Moshood Abiola Kashimawo, the business tycoon and philanthropist, is not only phenomenal but truly worthy of national celebration, as we now have it.
Abiola lives on through his legacy of philanthropy, democracy, and championing the cause of the common man. His limitless quote “No one can give you power. It is yours. Take it!” rings true to the youth today as it did then. Dare to be LIMITLESS!
