Today, as we mark April 24th, we remember the immense losses of the Armenian Genocide with heavy hearts. This day is not just a moment of mourning; it’s a call to honor our ancestors by embracing the vibrant culture they passed down to us. Teaching our children Armenian, cooking traditional dishes, and singing the songs that have traveled through generations are acts of remembrance and resistance. They are how we keep the heart of Armenia beating strongly in all corners of the world. Each word in our language, each recipe, and each melody is a thread in the fabric of our identity, a declaration that we remember, we survive, and we flourish. Let’s continue to pass these treasures on, keeping our roots alive and nurturing the future with the richness of our past.

The reason I started adding the transliteration next to each letter to some of our alphabet illustrations is to help Ryan learn pronounce words better by first understanding how to pronounce each letter. I have to say this method has been a HUGE help to his Armenian pronunciations.
I made it available in western, eastern and an option with no transliteration.

Sargis Baghdasaryan (born in 1923 and died in 2001). - The man behind one of the most famous sculptures in Armenia, The “Tatik-Papik” which translates to Grandmother and Grandfather. Such an important figure for Armenians and our history. Sargis depicted his grandfather and grandmother from Artsakh in this sculpture. The sculpture was christened as "We Are Our Mountains" by writer Bagrat Ulubabyan.
It goes without saying that this week has been one of the hardest for Armenians. Over 100 THOUSAND ethnic Armenians have fled Artsakh, leaving their homes, their businesses, their schools - everything they know behind. Everything is unknown for these families right now. Parents, children, grandparents, widows, the list goes on. These are real people, with real lives. Not just today's news on Instagram.
Let that sink in.
3 years ago when we started our company we made a logo that was close to home. A picture of Papik, surfing with a tattoo on his heart of Tatik. The idea came to me when I gifted Ryan a poster for his birthday. He loves to surf and he loves when I make him stuff but more so, he loves the Armenian culture to his core. Shortly after I gifted him this design in a poster and t-shirt, I decided to turn him into our logo. If you are subscribed to our emails, you have probably met our little papik mascot.
All this is to point out, how important and crucial it is for Armenians to continue to listen to Armenian music in their homes, cook Armenian food, put up Armenian art in their homes, teach their children and new generations the alphabet, teach them how to speak it, read it, write it. Continue to learn the prayers.
Because for far too long now we continue to see time and time again that our "neighbors" sadly possess the desire to remove us from our homelands, and sometimes even from the history books altogether. And sadly some do not believe this, despite the fact that we are seeing it again, in real-time, as Azerbaijan ethnically cleanses an area that has been core to Armenia for centuries.
This is how we keep going, this is why they can’t wipe us off the planet.
