Did you also know that Hinetakurua and Hineraumati the wives of the Sun are sisters?

Each year the Sun spends half his time in the sky with Hineraumati and the other half closer to the earth with Hinetakurua.

Hineraumati = Summer Goddess
Hinetakurua = Winter Goddess

Some of the children of Tamanuiterā and Hinetakurua include the 'Deity of Snow' and the 'Cold Destroyer of New Growth'.

Māori referred to the sun by various names, and there are different stories pertaining to the Sun’s whakapapa as explored in episode 1. However, how did the Sun gain his place in the sky? What do Māori believe about the origins of the Sun?
