JAL jet collides with coast guard plane at Tokyo airport, 5 dead
TOKYO (Kyodo) -- A Japan Airlines Co. airplane collided with one belonging to the Japan Coast Guard at Tokyo's Haneda airport Tuesday, causing both aircraft to catch fire and killing five coast guard members, while all 379 on board the commercial flight escaped without life-threatening injuries.
The JAL plane was arriving from Sapporo with 367 passengers on board, including eight small children, the company said. Five of the six coast guard members who were on board the other aircraft were confirmed dead, while the captain managed to escape, according to police

Fatal Accident in Eveready Nakuru

Ruto, Gachagua score grade D and E in latest Infotrak polls
President William Ruto has been ranked D in terms of his performance in the year 2023.
This is according to a study by Infotrak Research Consulting released on Friday.
Ruto's 'D" score is equivalent to a mean rating of 47 per cent.
In terms of regions, Rift Valley gave the President 50 percent for his performance this year, Western 49 percent Nairobi and Central 48 per cent, Easter 46 per cent, Coast 44 per cent, North Eastern 43 per cent and Nyanza 41 per cent.
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on the other hand was rated worse than his boss with an E of 36 percent.
Rift Valley gave Gachagua the highest score of 40 percent for his performance this year, Central 39 per cent, Western and Eastern 37 per cent, Coast 35 per cent , Nairobi and North Eastern 34 percent.
The Opposition side which the report indicates did better than Gachagua in terms of performance was rated with a D
The survey was conducted on 1,500 respondents between December 18 to December 19, 2023. Interviews were conducted through Computer Assisted Telephone Interviews (CATI) across all 47 counties and eight regions. There was a +/- 2.53 % margin of error.
The government institutions were also not left behind in Infotrak 's Research.
However, they all were rated with Ds.
County Governments and Judiciary had a score of 47 percent while the police and county assemblies were given 45 percent.
The National Assembly and the Kenya Kwanza Cabinet got 43 percent while the Senate had 42 per cent.
The report highlighted that many Kenyans are pausing to assess the performance of their leaders and institutions.
" The results, however, are not encouraging. Across the board the sentiments lean towards disapproval," reads the report.
Infotrak notes that the widespread dissatisfaction paints a clear picture: Kenyans expect better.
" The writing is on the wall, a stern message for all leaders entrusted with shaping the nation's future.

Three dead in Machakos road accident
Three people have died in a grisly road accident in Mavoko, Machakos County.
The three, a bodaboda rider and his two pillion passengers died on the spot after the motorcycle he was riding got involved in a head on collision with a private car in Mua hills area, Athi River subcounty on Tuesday.
Athi River South subcounty police commander Jos Mudavadi said the incident along Mua Hills-Mombasa Highway road at about 12. 40pm.
It was reported at Kyumbi police station as a fatal road traffic accident incident report at 1.35pm.
“It occurred today at about 12.40pm along Mua Road at Mathatani area. It involved a motor vehicle of Mercedes Benz make being driven by a 41 year old man,” Mudavadi told the Star
Mudavadi said the vehicle was being driven from Mua Hills towards the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway when the accident occurred.
“Upon reaching at the scene of the accident, he collided head on with a motorcycle that was being ridden by one Titus Nzili Kimina from the opposite direction. As a result of the accident, the rider and his two unknown male pillion passengers died on the spot,” Mudavadi said.
He said the rider crossed from his traffic lane and rammed into the said vehicle leading to the deaths.
Mudavadi said the scene was processed and cleared by traffic officers from Kyumbi police station.
The wreckage was towed to the same police station while body removed to Montezuma Funeral Home in Machakos town pending identification of the unidentified ones and autopsy.
