This is the most amazing weather photo I've ever come across.. and not surprisingly, was taken tonight by Nick Ulivieri Photography. Check out Nick's page and you'll see what I mean..

This water spout developed over Lake Michigan a few hours ago as record-breaking cold air is pouring over the relatively warm lake waters. Remember the miniature couplets apparent on radar with that lake effect band posted earlier?? I bet there is an outbreak of water spouts ongoing tonight over Lake Michigan..

The Blizzard of 1888

On Saturday, March 10, 1888, a winter storm was moving northeast across Michigan. Another storm center formed in the Carolinas and on Monday the 12th moved up near Block Island, Rhode Island. Two days later Connecticut and Eastern New York were buried under 2 to 4 ½ feet of snow. Albany, New York had 47 inches, Middleton, Connecticut 50 and New Haven 45; while Saratoga NY was the winner with 58 inches of new snow. Winds kicked up behind the initial snowfall with 50 to 70 mph speeds piling up 38 foot drifts in New Haven County, Connecticut, and 50 foot drifts in Duchess County, NY. This tremendous storm actually started as rain with 40 degree temperatures; by Tuesday morning most of Connecticut had single figures with below zero over most of New York. This may not have been history’s worst snowstorm, but it was one of the heaviest the northeast has ever seen….March 12 to 14, 1888.
