This week, Acorn author Keri Salas sent our Publishing Director, Holly Kammier, the most extraordinary package in memory of her beloved Darby.

Inside were rainbow tissues and stickers, a beautiful envelope sealed in wax with a tiny paw print, a heartfelt note, and the most gorgeous memorial candle featuring an engraved photograph of Darby in her prime, looking like the sweet, healthy baby girl Holly and her partner Julian will always remember her as.

There were lots of tears, in the very best way. ❤️🐾

And this beautiful gift gives us another reason to celebrate Keri and the incredible journey she has taken since publishing with Acorn.

Keri is the author of the It’s a Wonderful Dog series, which began with the Acorn bestseller It’s a Wonderful Dog: A Christmas Tail. Inspired in part by the loss of Keri’s beloved Great Pyrenees, Enzo, the story introduces readers to Bear Bailey and a world that celebrates how profoundly our dogs shape our lives, and how their love stays with us even after they’re gone.

And now that world has stepped right off the page.

Keri recently opened Bear Bailey’s, a brick-and-mortar boutique in Edmond, Oklahoma, inspired by the fictional town of Merivelle from her series. She also created an online shop filled with books, meaningful Rainbow Bridge gifts, memorial candles, keepsakes, journals, and other comforting treasures for dog lovers.

It’s incredibly special watching an author take the world she created in her books and build it into something readers can actually experience.

And as dog lovers, this one hit us right in the heart. ❤️

Thank you, Keri, for this precious gift and for honoring Darby so beautifully.

And congratulations on everything you are building with Bear Bailey’s. We are so proud to have you as part of the Acorn family. 🐾

Visit Bear Bailey’s online to discover Keri’s books and beautiful collection of gifts for dog lovers and the people who love them.

Our excitement is astronomical for the release of Ken Kisco’s NO STRAIGHT LINES TO THE STARS! Get your copy today!

💫 Book Description 💫

No Straight Lines to the Stars is the inspiring true story of a young lifeguard who dared to believe his life could reach far beyond the horizon.

On the beaches of Southern California, Ken Kisco learned that preparation saves lives. From rip-current rescues to split-second emergencies, he discovered that courage is not the absence of fear, but the decision to act in spite of it. Those early lessons in resilience and composure pushed Ken to believe he could accomplish anything . . . including his lifelong dream of reaching the stars.

Through relentless perseverance and unwavering faith, Ken rose into the heart of America’s most advanced space and defense programs, contributing to human spaceflight initiatives and supporting groundbreaking technologies. His unusual start as a lifeguard helped advance his career, distinguishing him from his Air Force and Navy peers. Yet, his toughest challenges were personal—he faced deep disappointment when a space mission was canceled and learned lessons about trust and integrity from a romance-turned-ruse.

Ken’s journey reveals that success is rarely linear. Setbacks became launchpads, adversity became refinement, and purpose became a compass. Part memoir, part inspiration, and part behind-the-scenes look at America’s quest for the stars, this is the unforgettable story of a man who proves that bold dreams, combined with grit and heart, can launch an ordinary life into an extraordinary one.

We are thrilled to announce that this October, Acorn author Jennifer Gasner is partnering with So Say We All (SSWA), and San Diego Writers Ink to produce a disability-focused edition of SSWA’s nonfiction, LIVE storytelling showcase– VAMP: Flipping the S'CRIP'T.

Too often disabled stories are filtered through nondisabled actors, writers, or cultural narratives that reduce disability to tragedy, inspiration, or spectacle. VAMP: Flipping the S'CRIP'T is about bringing stories that validate the depth, complexity, humor, grief, creativity, and expertise that already exist within disability communities and creating a space where those experiences can be heard directly, honestly, and without compromise. And we want YOU to submit!

They are seeking 5-10 minute long true stories (~750 - 1500 words) from disabled storytellers who, if selected, will be required to attend 2-3 virtual workshops to refine their pieces in preparation for the final show. Participants will also be assigned a performance coach to help them develop their piece.

They are asking that all submissions be received by midnight, August 31st, 2026 through their Submittable platform.

Accessibility will be part of the artistic process itself, not an afterthought. The event, happening October 15th at Kairoa Brewing, 4601 Park Boulevard, San Diego, California, 92116, 7:00 PM  9:30 PM. The venue is wheelchair accessible, near public transportation routes, and equipped with accessible restrooms and accommodations such as ASL interpretation and livestreaming so community members can participate fully.

We are excited to introduce you to our newest Acorn author, Kory Ann Rogers! STILL BECOMING, Kory Ann's debut book, is a mix of memoir and self-help and will be released this November.

📚 Book Description

Kory Ann Rogers grew up the oldest of seven in rural Idaho, learned early to hold things together, and never really stopped. She married her childhood crush, raised five children, built businesses, and burned out more than once. And through all of it, she kept showing up for everyone around her while losing the thread back to herself.

STILL BECOMING is her honest account of that journey—the moments she couldn't get out of bed, the roles she mistook for an identity, the slow realization that being needed and being known are not the same thing. Each chapter moves between memory and insight, inviting readers to pause, reflect, and recognize the places in their own lives where they, too, have been silently disappearing.

This is a book for anyone who has spent so long being needed that they’ve forgotten what it feels like to simply be. Not by starting over, but by returning to who they truly are. Because becoming isn’t about adding more; it’s about uncovering what was there all along.

📣NEW RELEASE!📣

We are thrilled to announce the release of George Miller’s novel, A Round of Golf with Jesus.

Book Description 📚

Faith and golf have a way of humbling us. They both seem more complicated than they are and harder to master than we expect. PGA professional George Miller has discovered that each is meant to bring joy, peace, and grace rather than frustration.

In A Round of Golf with Jesus, Miller invites readers to walk nine holes beside him and Christ, exploring how simple shifts, on the course and in the heart, can lead to transformation. With gentle humor, Miller shares personal stories, devotional insights, and practical teachings to remind us we can find fulfillment when we let go of perfection. If we trust God’s guidance and focus on being present, golf and life become far more rewarding.

We are excited to introduce you to our newest Acorn author, Denise Tanguay! Her upcoming humorous memoir, WELCOME TO CREOSOTE FLATS: A DESERT WIFE’S TALE, will be released this November.

📚 Book Description

Would you walk away from the life that’s supposed to make you happy?

Denise Tanguay has it all—family, house in the suburbs, steady paycheck—but it no longer fits. She is fast approaching a midlife crisis fueled by rise-and-grind burnout, a recent cancer battle, and too many trips to her son’s principal’s office. In search of a new creative adventure, the former riot grrrl quits her comfortable suburban life and moves her family to the barren Joshua Tree desert to launch a vacation rental business.

They find stunning views and a unique community of creative free spirits—but the desert is not for the faint of heart.

From fighting off rattlesnakes and unregistered s*x offenders to raising a teenager during the pandemic and launching an all-female band at age fifty-six, this hilarious micro-memoir of a working mom on the run unmasks the real stories behind the glossy photos and influencers making Joshua Tree famous.

Through authentic tales of desert beauty, absurdity, and grit, WELCOME TO CREOSOTE FLATS explores how giving up everything you’ve known can lead to discovering your true self.

We are delighted to introduce you to Tammy Tollner! Her important memoir, WHEN THE WINE STOPPED WORKING, is slated for publication in February.

📚 Book Description 📚

They say champions are made on the field—but what if the real battle is fought at home, delicate stemware in hand?

Growing up as the sensitive, book-nerd daughter of an NFL coach, Tammy Tollner mastered the art of performing under pressure and wearing a winning smile. But beneath the surface, wine became her steady companion, helping her navigate the high-stakes sports world, and the challenges of motherhood, financial crises, and divorce. For years, the wine worked—until March 2020 when she tossed the rulebook out the window. Tammy shares her candid, witty, and ultimately uplifting story of how a glass of pinot grigio went from celebratory ritual to emotional crutch, threatening everything she’d built.

When the Wine Stopped Working stands as both a cautionary tale and a celebration of the courage it takes to break free from old patterns and write a new story, no matter how late in the game.
