Book Description 📚:

The man who fights for his family is far more dangerous than the one who fights for his king.

Colonial sea captain Jonas Hawke returns home to Norfolk after a year-long voyage only to have his ship and its valuable cargo seized by the British Royal Navy. As the royal governor further tightens the noose on trade, Jonas is thrust into the chaos of a growing rebellion. Desperate to support his family, he sets out to find work. When he is denied a commission with the newly formed Continental Navy, he outfits his own vessel as a private ship-of-war and voyages to the Caribbean in search of enemy merchant ships he can capture and friends he can trust.

But dangers multiply on the unforgiving sea. The Royal Navy reacts mercilessly to the threat posed by privateers like Jonas. How will Jonas fare now that he has boldly defied the King of Britain to preserve his family? And what will happen to his loved ones while he is away, engulfed in a war to oppose tyranny in the name of freedom?

We are thrilled to introduce you to Thomas F. Hanchett, who has compiled his father’s original WWII correspondence into an incredible book titled DISGRACEFULLY EASY: A B-24 PILOT’S LETTERS HOME.

Book Description 📚:

In this posthumously published collection of letters and postal cards, William “Bill” Hanchett shares his candid experiences as a flight-school cadet, and later as an Army Air Forces pilot in command of a B-24 Liberator bomber during World War II.

Through Bill’s first-hand accounts, we learn that mastering the art of flying during wartime is about more than understanding engine throttle and airspeed. It’s about wondering when you’ll be called to fight and if you’ll be asked to betray your ideals. It’s about working hard and documenting the days, dreaming about the future, and longing for home.

An extraordinary primary document, Disgracefully Easy offers us a rare glimpse inside the military in the 1940s, a time when Americans worried about the fate of their great country and looked to the brave and courageous to deliver them from fear. This unique collection will be long remembered as an important addition to the annals of aviation history.

🌊 COVER REVEAL 🌊

We are so excited to reveal the cover of Deborah Rudell’s Grit & Grace: The Transformation of a Ship & a Soul. This gripping memoir will be released in February 2025!

⚓ Book Description:
Deborah Rudell’s world unravels when the leaders of her spiritual commune are exposed, arrested, and imprisoned for bioterrorism and attempted murder. Crushed and adrift, she moves her family off the commune to create a sense of normalcy. But when her husband seeks an opportunity to dismantle and rebuild a derelict fifty-foot schooner, Deborah uproots their children once again and joins him in Kauai. For the next five years, she dedicates her life to restoring a boat.

Pouring herself into the work at hand can only distract her so much as disillusionment about the cult’s lies and manipulation slowly rises to the surface. While she grapples with emotional turmoil and contemplates a new life path, Deborah sets out to accomplish something she never thought possible: sailing across the Pacific to the Olympic Peninsula. Will the dangers that come with navigating the ocean be too much to bear, or will she find resolution and fortitude in the turbulent adventure?

Grit & Grace: The Transformation of a Ship & a Soul is one woman’s account of conquering overwhelming challenges with tenacity and ingenuity and ultimately discovering her inner strength.

Congratulations to our intern of the year, Ash Pickett! 📚🎉

Ash is studying Business Administration with a minor in Creative Communications and Writing at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. Growing up with a Kindergarten teacher for a Mom, she developed a love for reading, writing, and storytelling at a young age, staying up late into the night (much to her mother’s dismay) to read Where the Red Fern Grows and A Wrinkle in Time. She’s a curious person by nature and aims to diversify her experiences in efforts to be more well-rounded. Aside from reading and writing, Ash spends her time playing sports and staying active.

Since joining Acorn Publishing as an intern, Ash has reached out to over 90 writers’ groups across the country to organize virtual community presentations and facilite partnerships with notable writers’ conferences.

In weekly intern meetings, Ash collaborated with fellow interns in a virtual setting, helping foster a productive and supportive environment.

Additionally, she demonstrated initiative by requesting to shadow two Acorn team members: a publishing coordinator overseeing the journey of a book from manuscript to shelf, and a content editor, a published author with over 30 titles, gaining valuable insights from both roles.

Ash has consistently embodied the core values of Acorn Publishing, and we’ve been thrilled to have her as part of the team!
