I'm a little confused. This article https://www.christianpost.com/news/ex-southern-baptist-professor-matthew-queen-resigns.html, says Friendly Avenue Baptist Church couldn't come to an agreement on how to part ways with its pastor, Matt Queen. Shouldn't any contract he might have or any bylaws you may have allow you to immediately fire anyone who pleads guilty to making a flase statement (what you and I call "lying") to federal authorities about a sexual abuse investigation? If not, then that's a problem.

They knew she was 12. They lied when they told their congregation they didn’t know. must be held accountable. I pray that this positive step by Gateway Church produces a culture change in churches everywhere. Leaders are fallible and when they behave in ways that are contrary to Scripture and possibly even contrary to law, they forfeit their privilege to lead. When it comes to ensuring the safety of your congregation, where do you think your church stands?

Why is talking about church safety and security so important to me as a woman? Because it's easy for churches to overlook the "soft" aspects of keeping our flocks safe from harm. We need active shooter plans and other emergency protocols - but we also need greater awareness of threats from within. We need partnerships with local providers to provide continuing care for victims. We need volunteers trained in crisis intervention techniques. We need teams who evaluate security protocols to look for improvements. We need people who are willing and equipped to speak up when potential physical, emotional, and spiritual safety issue arise. People willing to confront that no church is immune to predators.

Being a church of high integrity is necessary to effectively spread the gospel! We don’t try to have a good reputation by hiding what we are doing, but by doing the right thing. There is a huge difference there. I want to ask a question that will hopefully make us all think. What is OUR church’s reputation based on?
