GCR News Briefing
Just a quick one for now as I’m at work. I hope you all are having a wonderful day.
Correction-
I have a correction for yesterday. If what I’m told is correct the USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75) has not yet left for the Red Sea. One of my awesome followers claims to work on the Truman and informed me that they had not yet left to relieve the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower. I believe them, however they haven’t responded to the message I sent looking for clarification.
The ship was still spotted leaving Norfolk on June 10th however I have no further information. It’s possible they were stationed further out as a bit of a show of force because them leaving lines up with the arrival of Russian navy elements on the east coast. Time will tell.
I wouldn’t mind talking to the person who filled me in so if you see this send me a message on this page or my personal page and I’ll get back to you:
//Yemen/ Gulf of Aden
Today the Houthis in Yemen fired 2 anti-ship cruise missiles into the Gulf of Aden. The missiles struck M/V Verbena, a Palauan-flagged, Ukrainian-owned, Polish-operated bulk cargo carrier that most recently made port in Malaysia and is carrying wood and other construction equipment to Italy.
The crew of the ship reported fires caused by the explosions as well as other damage. The crew got the fire under control and the ship is now on its way again.
A MH-60R Seahawk helicopter from the USS Philippine Sea (CG 58) evacuated the wounded civilian to a partner force ship nearby for medical treatment. USS Philippine Sea is a Ticonderoga class of Guided-Missile Cruiser.
Another vessel, the MV Seaguardian also reported an explosion in close proximity with no damage to the ship or crew.

Cutoff for writing and posting about 8pm
//United States of America
8 men with possible links to ISIS arrested across the U.S.
On Tuesday 8 men from Tajikistan were arrested in Philadelphia, New York and Los Angeles for their suspected connections to the ISIS Islamic terror group. Officers from ICE (U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement) were alerted to the men’s potential connections by the FBIs joint terrorism task force.
All 8 men legally crossed the southern border to enter the country. The men’s background check came up clean at the time however they soon came up on the radar of the FBI joint terrorism task force who have recently been made aware of a possible terror threat from Central Europe. These men have been monitored as part of that investigation.
Analysis 🧐
We have no info on what the threat might have been but I’ll keep digging and talking to people. A key factor in this investigation was that these men came into the country legally but even so were being watched for months afterwords.
//Red Sea/ Yemen.
Red Sea Update
In the past day US CENTCOM forces report the destruction of 3 anti-ship ballistic missile launchers under the control of Houthi forces in Yemen.Additionally they also report the destruction of one UAV over the Red Sea that was launched from Houthi territory in Yemen.
Next we have two Anti-Ship ballistic missile that were launched from Houthi controlled areas of Yemen. They splashed down in the Red Sea.
Last we have an Iranian supplied unscrewed surface vessel (USV) that struck the M/V Tutor, a Liberian flagged, Greek owned and operated vessel, in the Red Sea. The explosion caused by the USV caused massive damage to the engine room and flooding. The ships most recent stop was at a port in Russia.
//Crimea
Russia deploys one of its new air defense system to Crimea.
Russia has deployed the its new S-500 `Prometheus‘ air defense system into Crimea according to the Ukrainian Armed Forces intelligence. The area it’s covering is no surprise as the first sightings of the system were reported to be within range of the Kerch bridge- the bridge separating Crimea from mainland Russia, long a target for Ukraine to help delay Russian supplies coming to Crimea. Ukraine has recently targeted the area with the donated ATACM ballistic missiles striking several ferries used to haul supplies and Russian troops into Crimea.
The S-500 is designed as a theater level ballistic missile defense as well as other long range missile threats. The system was designed to replace the aging A-135 Anti ballistic missile systems deployed around Moscow. The S-400 already has the capability to down air breathing targets, the S-500 is going to provide Russia the ability to fight against ballistic missile threats with a somewhat mobile platform.

//Cuba/Russia
Cutoff time for write up 6:00pm
Russian navel force trip to Cuba.
The Russian Ministry of Defense has sent 4 ships from its navel forces to visit the shores of Cuba with the ships arriving in Havana on Wednesday.
The small fleet is made up of 4 ships. I’ve heard a lot of people talking about these ships since finding out about them and I just wanted to give everybody a good overview of what this ship’s capabilities actually are.The first ship is a missile frigate, the Admiral Gorshkov (a project 22350 class), which entered the harbor at Havana amid a 21 gun salute. This rather new frigate in the Russian navy the Admiral Gorshkov, being designed as a multi-role frigate with a plethora of mission scenarios in mind this ship has a number of armaments, most notably VLS cells (Vertical launch System cells) giving it the ability to launch 16 (arranged 2x8) Zircon scramjet powered hypersonic anti-ship cruise missiles as well as a mix of Kalibr-NK land-attack cruise missiles (range 2 500 km), P-800 Oniks anti-ship missiles (range 300-500 km), and 91RTE2 anti-submarine missiles (missile drops torpedo 50 km away).The Admiral Gorshkov also host 32 VLS cells for anti-air missiles like the 9M96E and 9M96E2 interceptor missiles the same as the S-400 land-based air defense system. These missiles are intended to defend against precision attacks and various defense suppression weapons. For last ditch air defense it also has 2 CIWS (Close in weapons system) mounted on the rear. The system has a combination of 30mm rapid fire Gatling gun as well as 8 short range surface to air missiles. Its anti-submarine and anti-shipping role is boosted by its x2 quadruple 330mm Paket-E/NK torpedo launchers that can engage both enemy submarines as well as incoming torpedos giving them a duel role.
The ship sports a single helicopter hanger usually reserved for its Kamov Ka-27. She has a maximum speed is 29.5 knots (55 km/h).
The next vessel (and really the only other one we need to talk about as the other two are support vessels)The Yasen-Class nuclear powered cruise missile submarine ‘Kazan’ (K-561). Russia keeps info on their submarine fleet close to its chest leaving us with very little to go over. While she was reported to be heading to Cuba along with the others she has only been spotted once with her conning tower briefly appearing in the Havana harbor before disappearing back to the depths again. While not much is known about this sub I’ll go over what we do know. First off it has a total of 8 x VLS silos that can be loaded with a number of different munitions, mostly the Kalibr Cruise Missiles however she can also be loaded with
P-800 Oniks Supersonic Anti-Ship Cruise Missile. For anti submarine defense she has 10 torpedo launch tubes with SS-N-15 Starfish Anti-Submarine Rockets. Something I should mention is it’s also possible for this to be loaded with Zircon hypersonic missiles.
The other two vessels I’ll mention briefly are the Pashin,the fleet oil tanker, and the rescue tug Nikolai Chiker (in case of breakdowns).
We first got word of this trip two days ago when there was some activity from the US navy showing P-8 Poseidon aircraft conducting operations off the coast of Florida. The plane was flying in a typical search pattern. We can guess they were deploying its sonobuoy’s in an attempt to locate and track the sub. The navy also deployed guided missile destroyers and coast guard vessels to shadow the small Russian fleet as it made its way down the coast stating well within international waters. They mostly stayed to themselves and conducted drills.
Cuba specifically says none of the Russian ships are carrying nuclear warheads and that they are not a threat to the region.
“Visits by naval units from other countries are a historical practice of the revolutionary government with nations that maintain relations of friendship and collaboration,” a statement from the Cuban Revolutionary Armed Forces in a statement published by the Foreign Ministry.
Analysis 🧐
All of this comes days after US president Joe Biden gave his ok for Ukraine to strike at Russian targets inside the borders of Russia. While this trip wasn’t all about seeing if Russia could make the US flinch I do expect an increase in Russian air and navel assets in the skys and seas around the US; specifically in the Caribbean and South America.Russia have a a global navel exercise this summer as well as future scheduled navel visits to Cuba. One such visit scheduled is one of Russias Severodvinsk II-class submarines… likely in response to the appearance of a U.S. sub showing up in Guantanamo bay in Cuba last year. That visit didn’t make the Cubans happy. With all of this I’m pretty firm in my feeling that this visit is fairly routine and is only out of the ordinary because of what’s going on in other parts of the world and likely the only reason it’s a news story at all. Russia had sent ships to Cuba every year between 2013 and 2020.

GCR Daily News Briefing
I’m going to put these two together because some things happened yesterday I didn’t have time to cover. I hope you all have a great rest of your day.
//Ukraine
Ukrainian drones strikes hit a Russian SU-57 inside Russian territory.
Yesterday several Ukrainian drones struck at the Russian Akhtubinsk airfield. A mill blogger adjacent to the Russian Air Force called Fighterbomber posted about this on telegram where I picked up the story. His post have often checked out in the past so I trust the info, we also have photos of the incident which I’ll post below. According to the Russian Air Force the fighter took shrapnel damage which likely ruined the plane but we won’t know for sure until later. All of this was later confirmed by the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine (Ukrainian GUR).
The SU-57 is Russia most advanced “fifth generation” “low detectability” fighter jet. It’s capable of launching X-59 and X-69 guided missiles. Only several of these are currently in service with the Russian Air Force meaning the lose of one would come as a huge blow to Russia in a pride level.
Akhtubinsk airbase is roughly 400 miles from the frontline which makes this one of the longest range strikes Ukraine has launched. The airbase also has the glaring problem most Russian airbases have… no hangers. All their warplanes are stored on parking spots in the open air. I assume the military planners didn’t expect any attacks to be hitting their airbases.
Mozdok airbase was also attacked yesterday around the same time and is roughly around the same distance away. This attack caused minimal damage as Russian small arms fire took out the three drones which only were able to cause a bit of fire however it shows us a new Ukrainian trend of targeting long range Russian aviation. Russian aviation has always been a priority and a constant problem for Ukraine as Russia strategic bombers have launched cruise missiles at their city’s and infrastructure consistently since the early days of the war.
//Nuseirat, Gaza
Israeli Defense Force raid frees 4 hostages, leaves 150 Palestinians dead.
Today the Israelis Defense Force conducted an operation to free several hostages whose whereabouts were learned by the American intelligence community.
The IDF says they recovered Almog Meir Jan, 21; Andrey Kozlov, 27; Shlomi Ziv, 40; and Noa Argamani, who turned 26 while held by Hamas. The hostages were being held inside two separate buildings inside of Nuseirat, a refugee camp located in central Gaza. All four are in good medical condition.
While this operations success led to celebrations in Israel for the residents of Nuseirat, mostly refugees of the war, it left them with loss and sorrow as an estimated 200 people died in the fighting during and after the operations. Local clinics were clogged as they tried to get treatment for the hundreds of wounded.
Nobody is releasing numbers of fighters vs. civilians killed but it’s likely the majority of those dead are just refugees, who sadly were just wrong place and wrong time. Hamas regularly used civilians as body shields, setting up their operations in areas heavily used by civilians. Israel meanwhile is frankly past the point of really caring about that over the possibility of rescuing their people.
Notes.
Israel/Gaza continues to be a bad situation all the way around and if I’m honest with you I hate when I have to write about it. However, Ignoring what’s happening because it makes me uncomfortable is not something I’m going to do.
// Yemen / Red Sea
Houthis strike 2 cargo ships off the coast of Aden
Yesterday two cargo ships in the waters outside of Yemen were struck with Anti-ship ballistic missiles 70- 83 miles off the coast. We don’t have a lot of info on the ships but the United Kingdom maritime trade operations website (UKMTO) an organizations that provides info between the royal navy and civilian maritime vessels recorded the incidents and mapped them. Usually when an incident happens UKMTO is informed and gets in touch with the ship so they always have great info on these matters.
They have the event unfolding with the first ship as follows. Late on Saturday the ship is traveling at 8 knots, 83 miles south of Aden when it is struck in the forward station by a missile which causes a fire. The fire is later contained and the ship continues on with no loss of life or significant damage. A second missile is sighted but never hits the ship. During the aftermath of the missile strike people on small boats opened fire on the ship. The ship then changed course and speed to leave them behind.
The Houthis claimed the attack and also claimed that the ship struck was the Norderney. I have not been able to confirm that. They also claimed to strike HMS Damond, a warship with the British navy as well as the American aircraft carrier USS Dwight D Eisenhower and that ship is just fine so I’m not trusting any statement from the Houthis. I do believe they conducted the attack but that’s pretty much it. Everything else is subject to extreme scrutiny.
A second vessel was reported by UKMTO as well as maritime security firm Ambrey, 70 miles south of Aden fairly close to the other ship.
UKMTO put out an advisory report that said “ The master reports that the vessel was hit by an unknown projectile on the aft section, which resulted in a fire. Damage control is underway.”
No casualties reported and the vessel continues on its way,

Beirut, Lebanon
Gun battle outside the US embassy in Beirut.
Earlier today a gunman opens fire outside of the US embassy in Beirut Lebanon.
The Embassy staff reported small arms fire opening up near its entrance but nobody was wounded.
The assailant was dropped off by 3 other people who opened fire as well but soon left as video only shows one man. This guy was later shot and then captured by the Lebanese authorities who only said he was a Syrian national. The man is seen in photos wearing a black vest with the words “Islamic state” written on them. Possibly ISIS although I have doubts.
The embassy was closed for the rest of the day but says it will reopen tomorrow. They also say for now Americans in Lebanon should avoid large crowds or demonstrations as tensions are high and the chance for violence is more than none.

Today is the 35th anniversary of the massacre at Tiananmen Square (also known as the June 4th incident in China). I’d like to go over a little history as well as some rare pictures.
The Tiananmen Square protest was a series of student led protest and demonstrations calling for major reform in a period of economic or societal change in China. After the death of pro-reformist General Secretary Hu Yaobang in April citizens of China and mainly students realized that the changes happening in the country were mostly to the benefit of a select few groups in the country. Recent reforms in the 80 led to a massive shift in society which benefited some but severely disadvantaged others. At the same time the One party government was going through growing pains and people were starting to question its legitimacy. Some of the common problems at the time were inflation, corruption, graduates feeling unprepared in the new economy as well as the restriction from political participation. The people that made up the protesters views were not the same, as they all differing ideals and opinions but they had some goals in common such as rollbacks for the removal of jobs that gave them job security (reforms had taken a lot of these away), greater government accountability, constitutional due process, freedom of press and speech and democracy. At the height of the protest around one million people attended demonstrations in the square.
The response from authorities varied showing that leadership was split on how to deal with the issues of the protesters. After a hunger strike in May garnered support around the country as inspiring other protest in other areas. In total over 400 Chinese city’s seen protest or demonstrations.in response to the growing civil unrest martial law was declared by the state council on the 20th of May. By June 2nd, the CCP's Politburo Standing Committee made the decision to use military force to remove the protesters from the square. The death toll reached by some estimates from several hundred to thousands with pictures released years later showing the streets caked in blood and the remains of those who stood up to the military. A small number of soldiers were also killed.
This event had a lasting impact on China and its relations with other countries. Various western media labeled it a “massacre” and many western countries set up arms embargoes on China.
Everybody has seen the picture of the unnamed man standing in the road blocking the tanks. He has been referred to as “Tank man”. He looks like he’s coming home from the grocery store with his arms full of shopping bags.
What people don’t usually see is the zoomed out shot showing just how brave this man was that day to stand up to this column of tanks.
The man remains unknown as he was taken away after this picture was snapped never to be heard from again. I think this is an important photograph showing that sometimes no matter how great the odds are against you it’s important to stand up for what you think it right. This man didn’t know what he was going to do on that day. He might not have even been a huge supporter of the movement in the square. He had probably heard that soldiers opened fire at the square the night before killing several students and in that moment he decided that this wouldn’t stand with him. I don’t know what he was actually thinking, but me thinking about it has always made me hope that in a similar situation I would have the guts to stand up for what I know to be right in the face of overwhelming oppressive forces.
-the first two pictures are of “tank man”; the first is the one normally shown and the next is the same shot zoomed out. If I’m not mistaken these images are taken from a video recording of the event.
A tank running over some supplies and carts used by the protesters;
A man lying in the street during the clashes between the military and the students;
An unbelievable amount of blood on the street showing somebody that was maybe dragged away?;
A shot of the soldiers forming a line. Either protecting something or preparing to move against the students.
The aftermath as citizens of Beijing inspect one of several troop carriers destroyed in the clash between students and the military;
A shot of a burned out truck in the aftermath

//North Korea/South Korea
Tensions the rise on the Korean Peninsula.
South Korea has considered deploying propaganda loudspeakers at its northern border with North Korea after North Korea send trash filled balloons across the border. The balloons were filled with literal trash like used toilet paper and cigarette butts. Hundreds of these balloons were seen to have came down around the South Korean capital of Seoul.
It’s suspected the balloons were retaliation for balloons that had been sent north filled with political writings and cultural teachings sent by South Korean private citizens and activists, some of whom are North Korean defectors. North Korean citizens have been cut off from the outside world for a long time and activist were using the balloons as a way to spread dissent against the authoritarian leader of North Korea, Kim Jong Un and his despotic regime.
South Korea has further decided to pull out of an agreement signed in 2018 that was put in place to ease the tensions rising at the time. This move is mostly symbolic as North Korea has already pulled out and South Korea has partially suspended its involvement since 2023. This does however show that the tension is currently rising.
//Ukraine/Russia
Ukraine strikes back.
Yesterday images were released showing a Ukrainian the aftermath of a strike but an American supplied HIMAR on a Russian air defense battery north of Belgorod city, just east of the village of Kiselovo. The strike destroyed several S-400 launchers and damaged a radar. The air defense system was located roughly 37 miles (60km) from the frontline which puts in within range of HIMARS from Kharkiv city, which is 80 miles (129km) from the area.
The United States have given Ukraine permission to launch its supplied munitions into Russia , but with a stipulation.. it can only be in the defense of Kharkiv. Ukraine was getting hammered trying to defend that specific front because Russia knew it could just mass troops and equipment at the border and Ukraine couldn’t hit them however things have changed.
For now Kharkiv remains in Ukrainian hands. They have had a lot of success defending against the constant wave of Russian soldiers. A Russian opposition group called Verstka reported that Russia is, instead of prosecuting those soldiers who had refused to fight In Ukraine are instead forcibly sending them to the frontlines in Kharkiv. Hundreds who were being held at Russian military bases awaiting trial were either coerced by local authorities or forced out of their holding cells by gunpoint. Since the beginning of the Kharkiv offensive it’s been thought that the attack was launched with Russias Northern Grouping of Forces being under strength and in need of fresh soldiers.
Analysis 🧐
This battle is shaping up to be a very important one for both side. Russia and Ukraine both know that though however I’m seeing better decisions from Ukraine than some I’ve seen in the past. More soldiers sent to respond as well as more defensive positions being built, not just in Kharkiv but across the frontlines
Ukraine also has pulled in several “Elite” brigades like the ‘101st Guard Brigade Of General Staff’ these guys answer directly to the Commander in Chief and the General Staff and despite the rather lame translation of their guys are some of the best equipped, best trained most effective soldiers in the Ukrainian army. They took part in the defense of Kyiv destroying a Russian vehicle column made up of two light vehicles, two trucks.

Israel to obtain 25 new F-35 fighter jets.
Israels defense ministry has signed a deal with the United States to obtain a third F-35 fighter squadron.
The jets will be deliver in batches of 3-5 until Israel has a total of 75 of them. This deal is worst $3 Billion which will come from military aid from the U.S. to Israel. Delivery will start in 2028. Of the original 50 from a previous deal , 39 have been provided.

05/26/2024 GCR News Briefing //United Kingdom UK quietly buying up huge stockpile of old Soviet weapons and ammunition. The United Kingdom is buying up old stocks of Soviet and Russian made equipment with the intent to donate it to Ukraine. It’s no secret that the UK has been providing aid to Ukraine with their war against Russia, their tanks have recently been seen on the frontlines and for a while you couldn’t open the internet without seeing a video of a StormShadow cruise missile being used. While we know these weapons (and the score of tanks, arms, ammo, etc..) The problem with all of the aid is that the majority of it is from different companies and Ukraine has zero experience with some of this equipment. For decades their military relied on leftover soviet produced weapons, tanks and planes. The UK is attempting to give Ukraine weapons they will already be familiar with. Things they won’t have to wait months or years to use because their soldiers have to go through very specialized training to even know how to work this gear. If you want Ukraine to be able to use this stuff when they need it, fknd them Soviet gear. Ben Wallace who is a member of parliament and a former Army Officer he talked to reporters in Washington and said this. He has been part of the group leading the search for these weapon stockpiles. He also mentioned 23 countries around the world still have stocks of Soviet weapons s. "Large parts of the [ministry of defense] and defense attachés around the world have been looking," Mr Wallace also told the Wall Street journal that they weren’t the only people looking.. "Sometimes we've bumped into the Russians looking, by the way, in some countries, looking also for some of their resupplies because...they're running out fast," //Red Sea Houthis launch 2 anti-ship ballistic missiles towards the Red Sea. 05/24/2024 GCR News Briefing //Israel Israel accused of trying to carry out a Genocide by the International Court of Justice. Israel’s has been ordered by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to cease its offensive in Rafah. Rafah is a city in southern Gaza, currently under assault by forces of the IDF as they attempt to root out and exterminate the Palestinian terror group Hamas and other smaller Palestinian resistance groups. Currently most of not all of the Palestinians who were forced to flee the war in the north are now having to flee again. Israel isn’t likely to follow this order and the ICJ has no power to enforce it however it does put pressure on Israel as well as their support in the U.S. government. The ICJ ruling follows accusations from South Africa that Israel is carrying out a genocide. Both Israel and the U.S. have denied this claim. This ruling comes two days after International Criminal Court’s (ICC) chief prosecutor called for an arrest warrant for Benjamin Netanyahu ,Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, as well as Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar and several other, alleging war crimes by all party’s. Fighting continues in Rafah as well as northern and southern Gaza. Recently the IDF has discovered the body’s of 3 hostages which were discovered at Jabalia camp in northern Gaza. As Israel continues its operations support from the world’s international community has started to wane. Even the United States had threatened to withhold arms shipments if Israel proceeded with its assault on Rafah. //Haiti Three missionaries killed in gang ambush in Haiti Missions in Haiti Inc. posted on their Facebook that 3 of their members had been killed in an ambush carried out last night. May 17th, 2024 Russia/Ukraine Ukraine strikes Infrastructure and military targets on Black Sea coast in massive a massive aerial attack. Last night Ukraine launched multiple attacks on several targets in Russia. The most major of these attacks was on the port being used currently by of the Russian Black Sea fleet in Novorossiysk. Also damaged was the oil depot at Tuapse. The people of Novokrossiysk were treated to almost two hours of fireworks as Russian air defense worked to take on the onslaught of explosive laden drones and missiles. Russia’s defense ministry claims to have shot down “over 100” drones. The target hit was a section of the port which I believe was the spot hit with the missile. It caught on fire after the attack.I don’t know what the missile was specifically but it’s likely it was a long range ATACM. The drones are confirmed to have been “Liutyi” drones. Liutyi (Translated- Fierce) is the in house Ukrainian made drones that carries a 167 pound warhead at least 620 miles or around 1000km. The other target was another oil production and storage facility in Tuapse, around 350 miles from any Ukrainian held territory, showing the range of these drones. I’ve added some maps to the video clips to show the locations. They are not in chronological order. I’ll look back at this incident again if I get some time. I would like a more detailed report on what actually was damaged. It seems mostly infrastructure but I haven’t seen any footage taken of the pier that was struck. I didn’t have time to do as much geolocation as I would like but thankfully some others helped with the work. -Scott Your likes and shares help me grow this page, so thank you.If you enjoy my work consider picking up a membership on Patreon where I do deeper analysis as well as other extra content.. May 16th, 2024 GCR Daily Briefing //Slovakia Slovakian populist prime minister shot in assassination attempt. On Wednesday the prime minister of Slovakia Robert Fico, was shot in an assassination attempt while he was meeting with members of his political party and supporters outside of a cultural center in Handlova, 85 miles northeast of the capital of Ljubljana. Drs. fought for several hours to save the prime ministers life and his deputy PM told BBC that it looks like he will survive. 5 shots were fired by a member of the crowd who investigators say has political motives for wanting to shoot. “a clear political motivation” was mentioned in a write up on the incident in the BBC and AP. Fico is a divisive figure in Slovakia, his pro Russian politics and anti American/western messaging have led to worries among his fellow European Union leaders that he could lead the country away from the West. With this 4th term leading the country some are worried he will lead the country away from NATO by playing to nationalist fears. . A recent protest in the capital, rallying against his politics drew a crowd of thousands. However some of Ficos biggest opposition spoke out against the attack. A quote from outgoing president Zuzana Caputova, a political rival of Fico “A physical attack on the prime minister is, first of all, an attack on a person, but it is also an attack on democracy, Any violence is unacceptable. The hateful rhetoric we’ve been witnessing in society leads to hateful actions. Please, let’s stop it.” All of this comes a couple weeks before the election in Slovakia, a country going through some of the growing pains of a fairly young independent nation where it’s people are deciding between a closer relationship with the West and the EU or with Russia. //United States A deadly accident on Monday left one Air Force instructor dead after ejection seat malfunction. May 11th, 2024 //Ukraine Ukraine strikes at Russian oil production in Luhansk. Yesterday, Ukraine used (based on the distance) at least one U.S. supplied MGM-140 Army Tactical Missile System to strike at an oil depot in Rovenky, in the Luhansk Region. The warhead, which we have photos that show contained cluster submunitions cause several large fires to break out, damaging several storage containers located at the site, on the outskirts of Rovenky. The attack was reported by Russian sources to have caused the death of 3 people and injured seven more. This is the second attack in Luhansk that Russia has attributed to US Supplied ATACMS. The first hit Luhansk city and injured 5 people. If you’re looking for more info on Ukraine I’ll be covering the ongoing Russian push into the Kharkiv Oblast over on my Patreon. May 9th, 2024 GCR Daily Briefing //Russia Ukrainian UAV strikes at Russian Oil Depot. Last night Residents of the Kaluga Oblast reported on telegram hearing the distinctive sounds of drones above before an explosion lit up the sky. Ukrainian forces have targeted the oil depot located in the area and caused critical damage to the facilities. The facility is located around 300KM (around 200 miles) from the Ukrainian border. This same facility was targeted once before back in March and is owned by the pharmaceutical company Pervyi Zavod. According to video employees were warned of the drones presence at around 12:30AM and around 1AM the attack occurred. On the Ukrainian side, I’m getting early reports of a large Russian assault in northern Kharkiv. Large tank columns and groups of infantry have cross the border and managed to establish several bridgeheads. The Ukrainians have responded by sending reserve units into the area. Will update later. -Scott Your likes and shares help me grow this page, so thank you. On 3 February, the battleship fired her main battery in anger for the first time since the Korean War. She targeted concrete command-and-control bunkers as well as Iraqi artillery positions, firing 112 16” rounds between 5th to the 7th of February.” -. The American Battleship USS Missouri at one time was the peak of American navel might and power projection at sea. While the majority of her service came during the WW2 pacific theater when at the end of the war Japanese leaders met with allied command to surrender on the deck of the battleship, ending WW2 and later in the Korean War I want to talk about the twilight of the Iowa class battleships where this almost 50 year old girl showed she could still deliver the pain down range and inspire awe.
April 27th 2024 //Yemen MQ-9 reaper drone destroyed over Yemen. Earlier today anti air forces with the Yemeni Houthis shot down a U.S. MQ-9 Reaper drone that had been conducting recon operations over northern areas in Yemen. I don’t have a lot else on this incident. The U.S. doesn’t say much when we lose something. Especially when it was either a Russian or an Iranian surface to air missile that shot it down. The Houthis have a sizable stockpile of Surface to Air missiles either obtained from Iran, Russia or the leftover stockpiles of the Yemeni army. I didn’t clip the after images recorded that showed the wreckage as I was trying to save time in the video but the markings showed it as parts made by General Atomics. That was before the statement from US CENTCOM which confirmed it was indeed one of theirs. I had noticed a distinct lack of action on the Yemen front in the past weeks but that all ended these last few days as attacks with anti ship missiles kicked up again. We can’t say for sure but I believe the return to hostilities has something to do with the lack of a carrier strike group as the USS Dwight D Eisenhower has left the Red Sea area and the ships that are left in the area have pulled back to the edges of the AO. -Scott Your likes and shares help me grow this page, so thank you. The F-22 Raptor is one of the most, if not the most dominant air to air platform in the world. Its stealth gives it a minuscule radar cross section that keeps it from appearing on enemy radar until after it has probably already fired one of its 6 AMRAAM at you. The two Pratt and Whitney F119 engines incorporate thrust vectoring into the design giving it speed and agility. This jet is capable of sustained supersonic flight without the use of its afterburners allowing it to save fuel. All of this plus its added electronic warfare suite and ability to be used in a ground attack role will make sure that the F-22 remains useful well into the next decade. What jet do you like better? The F-22 or the F-35. I’m an F-22 guy for sure.
04/21/2024 GCR News Brief //Niger The United States set to pull its troops from Niger at the demand of the Niger government. The military run government in Niger has demanded that the U.S. withdrawal its forces from the country. This is a huge blow not only to Washington who has spent upwards of 50 million dollars to build their new CIA drone base in the area but also to the neighboring countries and the Sahel region who depend on the security services that the United States provides in the area. The Sahel Region has been a hotbed of Islamic terror for the last 60-70 years but has really ramped up in the last decade. Most notably Boko Haram, The Islamic State of Greater Sahara (ISGS), Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal Muslimeen (JNIM), Islamic State in the West African Province (ISWAP) and more. These groups spread fear and violence throughout the Northern African region and have begun to spread south towards the coastal regions. //Syria US base in Syria comes under rocket attack from Islamic Resistance group. The U.S. reports minor damage to its U.S. military base Kharab al-Jir in Syria. Earlier today the base came under attack by suspected members of the group Kata'ib Hezbollah,a group supported by Iran and under the Islamic Resistance umbrella.The base was hit with a reported 5 rockets fired from a truck with a multi launch rocket system mounted to the back. The truck was later destroyed by an airstrike from US forces Kata'ib Hezbollah announced earlier today that they would resume attacks on US forces because the U.S. has not withdrawn its forces from Iraq and Syria. Another small story out of Syria that’s caught my attention and I wanted to mention too. It. President of Syria Bashar al-Assad mentioned in an interview he gave that his government had held occasional meetings with Washington in recent months. Syria is a heavily sanctioned and isolated country and it seem like they would like to change this. The U.S. cut ties with Assad in 2011 over
04/21/2024 Crimea Oldest working ship in the Russian navy and the world hit by Ukrainian attack. A Russian salvage ship the Kommuna was struck while docked at the harbor in Russian occupied Sevastopol, Crimea. A Ukrainian Navy spokesperson Dmytro Pletenchuk told media that the attack was confirmed and that damage to the ship was unknown at this time. Video taken in the aftermath shows the fire crews attempting to fight the blaze. It’s been claimed that a Neptune Anti-Ship missile was used in the attack. The Kommuna is a relic from before even the days of the Soviet Union, originally serving the Russian Imperial Navy and being launched in 1912.She went through the Russian communist Revolution and two world wars before serving now in the Russian federation Black Sea fleet. She also has the distinguished title of first double hulled ship in the Russian fleet. The ship has an interesting history and I recommend at least checking out its Wiki. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian_salvage_ship_Kommuna?wprov=sfti1#History -Scott Your likes and shares help me grow this page, so thank you. 04/20/2024IraqPMF base attacked in Iraq, the attacker remains unknown. On April 19th an explosion thundered through an area of Iraq, 35 miles south of the capital of Bagdad. This area was formerly known as the “Triangle of Death” by the United States Military during the invasion and occupation of Iraq. The explosion occurred at the former FOB Kalso, the base was built by the U.S. army in 2003 and seen some of the worst fighting in the war but is now known as Calso (or Kalsu) base and operated by forces in the Iraqi military. The explosion was captured by several different cameras from civilians in the area and driving by on the nearby highway that goes into Baghdad and while satellite imagery is not yet available of the area, we believe it to have destroyed a sizable warehouse building which was used to store munitions. Large secondary explosions and statements released in local news media confirm that theory as well. Story continues… https://www.patreon.com/GlobalConflictReporting?utm_campaign=creatorshare_creator.
A Russian TU-22 (NATO reporting name `Backfire’) was filmed crashing this morning outside of the town of Stavropol,Russia. The bomber had carried out an attack on the city of Odessa before it was hit with a Ukrainian air defense missile that Ukraine said in a statement was a modified S-200 missile using the method used to shoot down the A-50U AWACS in February. These bombers don’t get lost in combat very often so seeing this last night was a surprise. -Scott #Russia #ukraine #military #geopolitics #news #video #europe #international #strategicbomber
04/18/2024 Ukraine Yesterday it was reported that on April 11th, 2024 Ukraine attacked Russias OTHR 29B6 (Over Horizon Radar) “container” radar array with two small, cheap one-way drone. The radar array, located at Kovylkino (Mordovia), Russia covers a wide slice of the sky as you’ll see in the images I’ve posted at the end of the video.the radars can detect objects all the way out to space for up to 3000KM or roughly 1640 miles which has its range reaching well last Ukraine and all the way to the Central European countries. it’s direction is mainly towards the east and much of the south. This radar is located roughly 500 miles from Ukraine and was carried out by Ukrainian forces behind enemy lines. At least that’s how it appears to me, they seem to have recorded the video during the operation. For any future Ukrainian air missions having this radar be out of commission will be crucial for chances of success. Russia has other radar options but losing this one is going to hurt them. Detecting aircraft, drones, and missiles is going to be much more challenging as they are likely left with more than one blind spot not covered by mobile radar. I don’t know how long this will take Russias engineers to fix but I do know it took them several years to build the array in the first place. -Scott Your likes and shares help me grow this page, so thank you. 04/17/2024 Ukraine Ukraine strikes Russian airbase in Crimea. Last night the Ukrainian armed forces launched an attack on the Dzhankoi airbase in Russian occupied northern Crimea. The base was hit with multiple ATACM (Army Tactical Missile System) at least we believe it was carried out by what I suspect to be ATACM’s, Debris left behind after the attack photographed by the Russians look to show the remains of one of these weapons. Video captured in the aftermath was put out by locals and shows a number of secondary explosions. Satellite pictures taken in the weeks before the attack shows a lot of Russian air assets being stationed here. 4x Su-25s and several different variates of helicopter. 2 KA-52’s appear in the imagery. Cluster munitions do an effective job of damaging airplanes and helicopters. If you like this kind of content check out my Patreon. I’m currently writing an Ebook for my paid members. I’ve confirmed this video which I posted last night was not connected to Israel. It’s an older video from a completely dofferent incident. A thank you to Jose Antonio Iglesias Garrido who clued me into the fact that Spanish is being spoken in the video. From there I immediately removed the video for further checking. We love corrections here. Instead of being embarrassed that I made a mistake I’ve decided to use these as teaching tools for myself. I can always do better and verify more before I put information out into the world. I got too in a hurry to get info out first when I should have worried about getting the right info out. That’s my mistake. One I will be striving to correct going forward. Thank you all. I’ll be back later for some after action analysis. -Scott Your likes and shares help me grow this page so thank you.
