In July, the team of «Sounds of Matter» was invited to hold the workshop as part of the Kinderuni (Vienna). Composer Adrián Artacho, together with physicists Stefan Noisternig and Christian Ebner presented the program 'Klänge aus dem Labor' (sounds of the lab) for an audience of brilliant 11 year old kids, who had the opportunity to learn objects that populate the nanoworld in a light and playful way.

The occurrence of speckles with high intensity in the diffraction pattern indicates the presence of special atomic clusters. The variation of the intensity between successive images is caused by the change of the local atomic structure when the beam is placed to a new sample position.

»Sounds of Matter«

The purpose of this call is to encourage composers to find creative new ways to convey scientific ideas through their music. The pieces have to be inspired on any of the concepts, data or audiovisual material (images, animations, graphs) available online at www.soundsof.net/materials. [...]

MAIN Category
Participants are invited to submit new pieces for piano trio (pno, vln, vc) with a duration between 5’ and 15’ minutes, with or without electronics. Selected composers will be invited to attend the final concert in Vienna, where the jury will make its final decision. The winner of the MAIN Prize will be awarded with €4000. Applications must be submitted no later than February 15th, 2018.

Call4Sounds
Participants are invited to submit their creations as soundfiles* (with a maximal duration of 10’ minutes), which will be object of an open online voting process on the weeks following the the submission deadline of February 11th, 2018.

«Sounds of Matter» Kompositionswettbewerb
Die Teilnahme ist jetzt offiziell bis Februar 2018 möglich!

Diese Ausschreibung fördert neue Kompositionen, die ihre Inspiration aus der Welt der Physik holen. Dafür wurden spezifische Materialien (Bilder, Grafiken, Animationen) online unter www.soundsof.net/materials bereitgestellt.

Der Wettbewerb richtet sich mit einer speziellen Sparte an Studierende und Alumni des Faches Komposition an der MDW. Ausgewählte Kompositionen werden in einem öffentlichen Konzert im Rahmen der Langen Nacht der Forschung 2018 präsentiert. Die besten drei Stücke werden mit jeweils 1500€, 750€ und 500€ ausgezeichnet. Die Stücke müssen bis spätestens 15. Februar 2018 eingereicht werden.
